'14 CA CB Adoree' Jackson (Signed with USC)

So what caused the downfall? I remember us being legit a while back

Mike Hamilton is to blame for pretty much everything, along with the Voodoo hex placed on us in the 2001 SEC game by the LSU mom. In all seriousness, coaching turnover, and department turmoil has hurt us. It's the overall image of the program. We are trying to recruit kids with the same icons that were in the olympics before these kids were born or they were so young they don't care.

Same principle has applied to football, but football is a different entity with turnover time and ability to recoup loss time. Apparently CBJ is one of the best recruiters in all of CFB because his hot sauce is like none other. The facilities are excellent for track and field and like most things we will recruit well and get good publicity again. Not a matter of if but when.

You can pretty much attribute the decline in all of our men's athletic programs to our past AD.

The biggest reason for the decline in our track program was when we did not keep up to date with an indoor track facility. We will not regain our place atop the SEC track programs until we have a state of the art indoor arena. Stokley was top notch when built and we were very strong in track in that era.

You mean like the one of TKj at Ohio st b4 he commited to us?

TKjr was on a visit to OSU. All recruits that visit a school usually take pics supporting their number jersey of that team. Adoree was at a 7 on 7 tourney and was representing USC gear. Big difference IMO. I would love nothing more than to see him spurn Kiffin and become a Vol.

Don't get me wrong bc I wasn't saying he would end up committing to us like TKj. I just wouldn't read too much into pictures like that. But you're right they're different situations.

If I remember correctly, either the men's or women's coaching staff was fired by hamilton. Then in an ultra-bone-headed move, the remaining staff was put in charge of both men and women. Many track athletes transferred out shortly thereafter. SMH

This is what I thought happened. Either way, a very strong argument can be made that Mike Hamilton destroyed every single men's program that UT fans even give a shat about.
Most everyone is football fans, and anyone with a brain can see what damage was done to the football program. But I'm a die hard baseball and track fan. Our baseball program quite possibly might have been smashed on moreso than the football program. And the conference in baseball is as, if not more competitive than football, making it extremely hard to rebuild. The track program isn't anywhere near where it needs to be. Kinda sad, because it's pretty awesome to go over there and watch them run. But it gets old when UT continues to underachieve.

I believe it was Men first, and that really hurt us, then we lost our best athlete because of it, and everything seemed to spiral downhill.

Bill Webb retired and JJ Clark, who was the women's cross country coach, was promoted to lead both the women's and men's programs.

Hamilton saved a lot of money.

This. Clark's a hell of a women's coach which is evident by his multiple SEC and NCAA titles in track. But adding men's track and more recently men's XC to his plate is just too much IMO.

Hamilton saved a ton of money? What article were you reading? In comparison to our larger issues as an athletic department he gashed us. I'm glad he thought re-organization of the track team and utilization of one coach's skill set would "save money."

I just got off the phone with the nation's 8th ranked player, Adoree' Jackson. He says Tennessee is a factor and hopes to do both track and football at the next level. Full update coming.

This, the same dude sporting USCw gear all the time (most recently gloves, but there are pics of him in USC socks, shirts, etc.). I will honestly believe he is interested in any school besides USC if he commits somewhere else, and then I still wouldn't feel too safe.

Come on Adoree, you can excel at both sports here at UT!! Skills have you on the field as a freshmen. Man this would be a big time Johnny swagger commitment.

That means a boombostic pick up for our recruiting mojo. Top ten Nationally, wnumber 2 CB behind J.Peppers. Need this to happen

+1

At least 7 UOV's to USC says a lot IMO. Several were recent visits. I'll believe he leaves Cali when he signs somewhere else.

he might have found out that James Franklin will be replacing Kiffin in the near future

"I just manage everything well," Jackson said. "I try to keep myself level headed. My parents brought me up to stay humble because God is number one. I just want to stay myself because you never know what will happen." "I feel like I go compete," Jackson said. "I don't back down from any challenge. I want to win in everything and I'm going to do whatever I can to help my team succeed."

"I think one of the things that stands out to me is a school that I can do both track and football," Jackson said. "I also want a place that has good coaches. I want staff that is honest and down to earth. I want a school that has a good feeling and atmosphere. I want to compete against the best."

With offers from every major program coast to coach, Jackson knows he's got a big decision ahead. He hears a lot from Tennessee via social media and mail. He plans on visiting Rocky Top in July.

"I know Tennessee is a great program and it's close to home," Jackson said. "They are in the SEC. They want me to come out and check out the facilities and the program. They are definitely someone I'm interested in."

close to home?

I think I read a few pages back where he is originally from Illinois. In that regards, it is much closer to home.

This would be a big thing for him. Hopefully we would let him run track as well. We did with JHunt for a while, and then we got that track guy (I think his last name was Wells?) who was going to return punts for us and was incredible at it, until he got hurt.

I think if we can offer him track and football opportunities, we have a real shot at getting him. Definitely would be the get of the class, no doubt.
