Been saying that for a while. When your coming off 3 losing seasons, sometimes its better to get a kid who can play in the SEC now vs rolling the dice on the home run 5* later. I also would be worried up till NSD with Cornwell as at any minute bama could offer or decide to take (2) QBs and we would be w/out one at all.

Wow 45%? He must of either had some really bad receivers or needed to put in some serious work himself. As for Doss, I'd be fine with his commitment.

"Doss measured 6-2, 218-pounds at the Rivals camp. I think he may be a shade under 6-2. He isn't 6-0 though, definitely taller.

Most schools have recruited him as an athlete. The good thing about Doss is that he has the size and athleticism to play other positions. Does he want a shot at QB? Of course he does. However I think he is open minded. He knows he is more in the "athlete" category. I think Tennessee is recruiting him as an athlete. Will they take his commitment? I don't know the answer to that. He believes they will. Paul will be able to shed more light. I am sure we will all find out this weekend. I'll be sure to post as soon as I hear something one way or the other. "

At first glance, I think that might be some people jumping to conclusions based on Tennessee's quarterback board getting a bit short on names. A lot of people I've talked to aren't sure Doss will end up playing quarterback in the SEC."

I've noticed that it seems like a lot of HS QBs seem to have lower completion percentages and end up having a much better percentage once they get to the college level. I think there a lot of factors that potentially lead to the lower percentages in HS.

First, that HS and college schemes are so much different. Second, that they are throwing to better/more reliable receivers at the college level. Third, that the play calling is much better in college and the coaches know how to utilize their players more effectively. Fourth, the coaches know how to teach the game better, and the players have more time to devote to bettering their mechanics and game as well. Those are just some of the things I thought of off the top of my head but im sure there are many other factors.

Just look at Cornwell (who's thought to be one of the best passing QBs in this class) for example. His completion % was only 56% last year.

Also, there was talk about Doss possibly committing to Tennessee over the weekend and while the Alabama athlete is very high on Tennessee he still has to go through camp. We'll be paying very close attention to how that progresses this weekend.

Sounds good for us, I'd like another situation where we could take another dual-threat guy and look for a second pro-style guy if possible.

I'd like to have that situation as well. Another Shaffer/Ainge type of battle. I was about 15 durning that season and I remember being so excited to watch them battle it out their 1st year. I thought Shaffer was going to be so good. Lol. I'd love to bring in two guys like that again. I just really want a QB who can hurt you with his legs at any time but who can throw accurately as well. Those guys are a defensive coordinators worst nightmare.

SN: This guy reminds me of a thicker/stronger former Notre Dame quarterback--Everett Golson. They're even ranked almost the
same by rivals:

I live in Florence and have spoken with the recruiting coordinator at Florence HS. He came up with the Head Coach from Prattville last year and is a Vols fan.

Seems like a good comparison to me. I say bring him in and give a chance to compete. I trust butch and the rest of the coach's evaluations.
