'14 AL DE Cory Thomas (Now the enemy)

2 scenario's

I think this is why Sawyers did leave with an Offical and was able to post the pic. Cory told the coaches he was 80/20 Clemson lead and he is looking for attention from the media now.

Or

I think Butch gets it and he is using Cory to play the media so they can print that we out recruited a Top 5 team.

Heck who really knows??? I guess we will find out Wed but whoever gets him will benefit

And then i see your side of things as well. Clemson's D Line is probably better than ours is in terms of talent. Will it be that way in 2-3 yrs? Probably not.

Here's to hoping ours will be much better than theirs very, very soon!

I mean Clemson is a pretty good program and recruits really well. They already have more depth and talent on their team than we do. I'm not sure what the kid is thinking if he is just looking at the Dlinemen being brought in with this class.

If he isn't good enough he will be recruited over at any program regardless but he has a better chance to get on the field early at UT.

A recruit commits, then flits all over the south visiting other schools, then tells people he almost didn't take a scheduled visit to UT, THEN tells the coaches he'll make his decision by Wednesday. A commitment means your decision has already been made. This kid isn't committed, hasn't been for a month, and I wish we would move on and let him do the same.

Is it bad that I don't care if he flips or not? I'd like to keep him, but I feel like we're being used as a pawn.

Homey don't play that.

Yep. Unfortunately it appears he's Clemson-bound. How in the world he can be concerned with our DL depth chart is beyond me. We're bringing in a lot of recruits, but there's virtually nobody with any experienced/production on the roster.

Ding, Ding, ding! that's really it--if the guy is a fierce competitor and understands ANYTHING--he could come right in and make the most of our depleted shelves--OPPORTUNITY abounds here!

This seems to be playing out like Lambert and AUB. Committed early then visits other schools and says still committed but having a signing day announcment. Fliped.

Small difference is he hasn't tried to hide his interest in other schools and doesn't appear to have lied to Butch about any of it.

If someone had told you BEFORE Thomas "committed" that you could take on Sawyers AND Robertson instead...how many on here would take that trade?...my hand's raised.

I agree. This is where I have been with it for awhile. The dancing should have ended weeks ago if he was really committed. If they pick up Sawyers I think it is a good trade. We already have Carr as a RS, which is a one year older Thomas IMO. Taking 8 on the D-line is what I wanted to see, especially with the quality. Frees up the 2015 class to be all about top guns at various positions.

One could almost say, "Opportunity is now here!"

Too soon? :)

To you guys that get on here and praise guys when they seem solid but post negative comments when they dont are hurting the univesity. Alot of recruits, including Cory, read the boards. You would to. Its the first time they feel somewhat famous. Cory would be a huge asset for UT and he still may commit here but he`s a kid and reading stuff like "wouldnt be a big loss" can be hurtful. Everyone is free to have an opinion but dont just base it on your personal level of butthurt. Unless he doesnt sign with us. Then bash away. ;)

As much as I would like Thomas to stay, if I'm CBJ during his visit, I'd probably be saying "get in the boat, or get out"....cause we need every single spot. Dragging this out to NSD means we get stuck out of a spot, if you bail.

This sounds like a ploy to get attention, IMHO...and I don't like it. How would this program look if we dropped a guy on NSD? That door swings both ways.

Agree. My issue with this situation is Thomas apparently telling the coaches he's sticking with us and then coming home and saying he'll decide, which is obviously a possibility of flipping. I don't mind kids flipping and hold no ill-will towards them like some do, but just man up and say "Coach Jones I'm torn on the situation. I'd like some more time to think it over." Don't "affirm" your commitment on Sunday and turn around a fax a letter elsewhere on Wednesday.

That is why I have been of the opinion for a while if we got Sawyers, use the Thomas spot for someone else. IMO there are several quality options still undecided that I think we could get even this late. Sure they could roll the dice and if Thomas does flip just roll the ship to the 2015 class or give it to one of the GS/BS kids.

It may be a little late for Bruno now that he flipped to candy, but with Brown looking like a possibility for Juco, Bruno would fill in nicely IMO.

This may not be a popular response, but can you honestly blame him for not wanting to come to UT considering the number of DL prospects we are signing? Don't get me wrong, i wouldn't let it stop my commitment, but all along Cory has been somewhat distant from the #VFL movement. Michael Sawyers gets his scholarship offer on your final visit, getting lost in the shuffle is something that is a legit concern. Regardless, i wish the kid well and look forward to signing Michael on Wednesday. I am really just trying to see things from the recruit's perspective, which commonly gets shoved aside.
You can't look at how many DE's we are signing...but rather DT's. We didn't sign ANY last year (Carr was projected as a DE). And wasn't doing all that well beforehand. IMHO, he and Mosley are the top 2 DT's in our class. That means he WILL be in the 2 Deep rotation THIS year. It doesn't get more inviting than that.

I think Opie is telling him that they are competing for championships and we are just trying to get to a bowl game. Pffft. :loco: College Football is cyclical. Clemson had a few decent seasons recently, but they aren't playing in the SEC and they aren't Florida State.

Just look at Auburn, FSU, Missouri, A&M...they all had a dramatic change in fortunes recently. Bamer was the same way. They lost 6 games Saban's 1st yr, had a big recruiting haul and were back in business.

It's our turn to flip the script, and few will see it coming.
