'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

Before he commits to UM, Momma needs to make him take a visit to Ann Arbor in January just to see how bleak and dark that place is in the winter time.

i don't get where everyone keeps saying this, it's not like he's coming from south florida. richmond is warmer than ann arbor yes but you're talking 15 degree average difference tops

I am from Detroit, MI and had to move back here from Knoxville last year to help caretake for my Dad. Let me tell you..even though I was born and raised here and love my hometown city, I did NOT want to come back AT ALL!! It is miserable here during the Winter! It IS gloomy, cold, dreary and depressing! Its just a different way of life up here compared to Knoxville. More hustle and bustle...much more fast-paced. I love Detroit and always will, but Knoxville, my other home, will always be home sweet home to meeeeeeee!!

We work together? Lol jk

I have a facebook page where I post recruiting/vol info and the Michigan fans came in FULL FORCE after I posted that UT and MI are tied at the top. Not only were they "confident" that they'll land Green, but they are also some of the most disrespectful a$$hats that have posted on my page. It's okay though, I'll get to sit back and watch OState run through them like runny poo u for the next few years.

i'll give you that, there are some toolbag UM fans out there but that can be said about any fan base honestly. if i try to pass along any info that i hear, strictly as rumor/rumbling/scuttlebutt, if it's not so positive UT info i get ganged up on pretty good but a Vol fan reports the same thing then it's taken seriously

Don't whine if you want respect around here. Miamicanes and sctiger are good examples of rival posters.

Half of scUM's fanbase are Walmart Wolverines, its pathetic! They never attended one class at the school, didnt graduate and/or has no ties but LOOOOVES scUM and screams GO BLUE! lol HA! GO BLOW is more like it! scUM fans are arrogant, pretentious, know-it-all freaks. They think they are better than you and have their noses up in the air. MSU fans are the cooler, more genuine fanbase.

Quick question for ya, are they in on any other big-name RBs? Or is Green being pitched with being the only name RB in this class? I found the recruiting a little thin at that position the last 4 years, and with the coaching and offensive style change I was wondering just how deep the rest of the roster was.

From what I can tell, both teams have pretty favorable depth charts.

Ok ... I'll come to the defense of Goat.

Why is this SO hard to believe? He's a 5 star running back with the best offensive line (arguably) in the country. And the invisible freshman 'barrier' was broken this year by Manziel. In the right system with lots of playing time, could this kid rack up 1,500 - 1,700 yard and 15 touchdowns? Sure he could. That's a lot of 'Ifs'. He's certainly got the talent to make it happen, though.

You may not agree with it but it's NOT a ridiculous idea.

You think he's on the level of Jamal Lewis first. Now he's going to lead the SEC in rushing year 1. Calm it down and let him get here please......

I don't really think the weather thing is an issue either, but 15 degrees is a big difference.

green is pretty much it. UM has commitments from a middling 3* RB and #19 4* ATH who is projected to be RB but at 6'3" and 245, i think FB more personally. best i remember ty isaac who ended up at USC was the closest in terms of having somewhat of a chance with. IMO if green were to come to AA it would take quite a bit for him to not be starter by at least mid-season if not sooner

Neal is more of an all-around back than anyone on the team IMO. He's got the size/strength to run between the tackles, he's also one of the fastest guys on the team, and he has good hands out of the backfield (as evidenced by his time playing in the slot a couple seasons ago). He needs to stop trying to bounce it outside so much but he got better at hitting the hole and taking what was there as the season progressed. And after another offseason to learn under coach Graham I think he will be even better at that next year. I think he's got the potential to be an excellent back for us and I'm excited to see how much he and Lane progress over the offseason bc I think they can be a very good combo.

Great post. I concur fully. I hope we get Green, but we`ll be fine at RB in 13 imho. Still need to sign as many SEC cal. RB as we can. My primary concern is defensive. We need a lot of help games 1&2 to prep for Orestoned and Floriduh.

This is not all on Raijon. A good portion of those efforts to the outside in the early season were attributable to coaching, scheme and game planning.

True statement.

And I didn't say he WOULD do all that stuff IF he signs. I just said it's possible. Three freshmen in the SEC rushed for 1,000 yards this year. Talented kids find their way to the top.

I get your point, though. It's not likely ... but it's not ridiculous as the other poster said.

you have to consider is the frigid winds coming off the Great Lakes. doesnt affect the temperature but the wind chill gets ridiculous. that cold lake wind will crystalize your bone marrow.

I can vouch for this statement, having lived in both the upper midwest and Tennessee. I'd move back to Tennessee if half a second if I could.

i just think the SEC is too big of a pull for DG. he wants to compete with the best, and that's here in the SEC behind our o-line. he has a great chance to come here and be successful IMO

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Michigan run the spread like us? I'm surprised this guy doesn't want to play in a pro style offense.

you are wrong...under Hoke they have switched to a pro-style offense...they just kept some spread elements because of Robinson at QB

I wasn't positive, I just remember watching Denard Robinson run around 2 ago or something. Thanks for correcting me. Definitely not feeling good now.

I live about 50 miles from Richmond and I would balk at the weather in Michigan. This of course is my opinion and I have to say that if Green is still strongly considering going there this late in his recruitment the weather must not be that big of an issue.

Personally I think he's a good player but not in same league as Yeldon and Gurley. Those are two monstrous talents. Their footwork is much better than Green. And you're saying he's more physical than Jamal Lewis. Come on Man........................Plus getting 1500-1700 rushing yards would probably lead the SEC plus winning the Heisman on top of that. My gosh. :whistling:

excellent point, i seriously doubt there are any things he doesn't know about one place or the other, all of the pluses and minuses have been thrown out there. at this point who knows, and who knows why there isn't a decision yet. i had heard there would be an announcement at the AA game but i've been hearing since that's nothing confirmed so i'm not going to expect anything until NSD.
