'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

Now, now Fleetwood. That is a ranking of MBA programs, not undergrad programs in business. I am sure that there is a strong correlation, in terms of overall departmental quality, but those findings are not entirely relevant to a high school senior embarking upon his freshman year of college.

i by no means said UM is a better school than UT but as you say the undergrad programs should be somewhat equal, at least in terms of each other. but let's be honest here, and i'm by no means knocking Derrick Green but if you're the #1 RB in the country with goals of the NFL, does #8 vs #60 really matter that much in the grand scheme of things? they're both quality educations from equally recognizable schools, it's not like we're talking about Wharton vs BFE Alabama State.

as for rankings, US News and World report has UM tied for #3 and only goes to 10 so where UT stands, IDK.

Nah..telling uM rivals that means zilch. If that was so much the case why not committ and enroll in a few weeks?

if it meant nothing, why say it and why not say the same thing to UT rivals. having someone as a leader means nothing in the final decision as we've seen many times over the years of recruiting, it's nothing more than his opinion at the time of the interview.

That's OK. I'm just teasing you. I can say, in all objectivity, however, that if I were in his shoes and academic pedigree was a significant factor in my decision-making process, I would pick Michigan. And that statement comes from someone who completed his M.A. at UT and is in the process of completing his Ph.D. dissertation from another Public Ivy, Indiana University. That gives me a uniquely qualified position to compare the two. UT is a fine university and anyone can obtain an excellent education at any institution of higher learning if he/she chooses to apply themselves. Michigan is a notch above us, pure and simply, as an academic institution.

Having said all of that, I would argue that most people, even elite athletes for the most part, make decisions about an undergraduate program based largely on proximity to the home nest. Choosing a graduate program or professional school is an entirely different process. Those prospective students have already gone through the maturation process associated with young adulthood and their decisions are rightfully predicated upon the ranking of the departmental program to which they will matriculate and the "fit" in terms of research expertise with respect to faculty members in their chosen fields.

again, another TIFWIW from a guy that covers UM recruiting for a Michigan website. guy has generally seemed factual rather than reporting his impression but i can't vouch personally for the guys credentials.

I was able to briefly text with 2013 RB Derrick Green about the report that he's down to Michigan and Tennessee and his response was a simple "no". Yes, this is an update that revolves around a single word.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if Michigan and Tennessee were his top schools, but he's been adamant about keeping other schools in the fold for a while now and doesn't seem to be in a hurry either. After David Dawson recommitted to Michigan, Derrick's response was also simple: "It's a great thing". He's been really, really quiet since his official to Ann Arbor and I'm guessing it's at least partially due to the amount of calls he's gotten for months now.

Tremendous: Derrick Green Update

No way this dude wants to live in cold ass, gloomy Michigan for 3 years when he could go anywhere in the country. I work with 3 guys from Michigan and they all say they'd never go back.. Said Knox is like a different world.

You have a very strange post history.. Some random threads I didn't even know existed.

strange as in? i was primarily gaming forums only for the longest time. i generally stick to threads where i have vested interest or at least at first something to add to the conversation rather than just replying to everything i can with comments like "this" or "+1". i don't look for threads to post in just to post something and i'm honestly no where informed when it comes to information regarding UT or it's athletics but when it's time to call a spade a spade, sometimes i can't help myself.

Him going to visit UM right now would probably be good for us.

How would that help us?

Because Michigan is horrible this time of year, cold, dreary, wet. That was a someone tongue in cheek post though, quoting a post that said how horrible Michigan is. Get that sarcasm meter turned on ;)
