'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

IMO, Green will be a much better pick up than Henry would have been. He is a more well rounded running back with plenty of power.

Yes I would. UF has better dbs than Bama and a comparable defensive line with both. Maybe LSU's is a bit better, but UF's defense stacks up pretty well compared with just about anyone.

UF has better dbs than Bama based on what?
Can we say that anyone of the starting CBs at UF are better than Milliner? Belue is still a wait and see just like Purifoy is for UF. UF has more experience backups who are both JRs (Riggs/Watkins). Bama seems to be alot deeper at safety, imo. We will get a better assessment of Bama in the coming weeks when they play Mizzou and UT.

Since Green is our most coveted recruit I would vote to sticky this thread. I hate coming on here and finding Henry, who has already committed, above DG.

Who you calling most coveted?!?!?

Signed,
Marquez North

As an Auburn fan, I come in peace. Growing up in western NC, I grew up rooting for the Vols. However, my son attended Auburn and I am an AU fan. I am not here to BS you or stir up things. I enjoy this board, particularly the recruiting discussion.

As a member of several AU sites, I follow football recruiting closely. For what its worth, a well respected AU guy from Tennessee shared some inside information that your running backs coach felt very solid about Green. Appears to be horse race between AU and UT. Michigan does not appear to be much of a factor. AU thinks he will commit this month.

right now your wrong but once green gets in the weight room and puts of 10 to 15 pounds this summer he'll probly slow it down. But Kamara's time is a 4.55 from what i've heard. so i hope he gets faster. I think once Green gets to 230 his forty time will be anywhere from a high 4.4 to a high 4.5 maby 4.6 at the worst.

Dude that time is wrong on Kamara. He's a 4.3(4.37-4.38) guy and you can see it on their game tape. Kamara is a much faster back. I have a hard time believing that 4.31 time for Green. But he's got good speed for a back his size.

Welcome. How are AU folks so sure about any elite prospects with the year they're having?

If you guys don't make a bowl, will Chizick stay, in your opinion?

Kamara is not a 4.3 guy. Kid has consistently ran in the 4.5 area which is still very good speed. He ran a 4.55 at the opening and that was on a fast track. His speed does translate to the field though which is what matters. He is also very quick.

jave36 - Thank you. Appears current AU recruits are still solid. Foster has been to every AU game and the glue that binds this class. He is active in recruiting for AU, particularly M Adams and Trey Matthews. Ironically, I think based on recruits' comments about Chizik, that is one of the reasons why he will return next year regardless of bowl appearance. He will be on hot seat next year to win 8-9 games and show vast improvement. Patience for Chizik is not endless among AU fans.

BTW several AU fans think that AU-UT teaming up would be helpful and and consistent with both teams interest to offset the alliance we see happening between Alabama and Georgia.

Chizik will get a break because he had to replace two coordinators. That's exactly why Auburn has struggled. The talent is clearly there and Chizik has proven he can coach.

the enemy of my enemy is my friend. so when you play GA,FL and most of all alabama. we will root for auburn. But besides that auburn can go to hell. It's obvious you guys bought the players for your NC. And the only way you guys pull in green would be by offering the big buck$.

No he hasn't. I don't care if he stays or goes but he has not proven he can coach.

Cam Newton was as close to a one man gang as you will ever see in college football. Outside of that one year he's 7-11 vs the SEC after taking over a program in much better shape than UT was when Dooley arrived.

Chizik wasn't a very good coach at Iowa St. I was stunned when he got the Auburn job.

If Chizik can land Lawson, Green, and Foster without going to a bowl game, that will be the biggest recruiting coup in history. I just don't see it happening, but if it does, he deserves another year just for amazing recruiting.

Ya he got a once in a lifetime QB in cam the only other comparison to him would be tebow. And cam was bigger and could throw better.

Auburn DOES have talent. Currently 1-3 with a OT win at home vs ULM. That is Chizik coaching. And THAT is his result even with the advantage of being able to sell their National Championship to recruits.

My pitch to Green would be: "Auburn squanders talent... we just haven't had talent like you".

I actually hope he stays. Lord forbid that Auburn would hire a good coach with all that talent.

OrangeHammer - Nothing scientific about AU-UT alliance. We battle UA and UGA every year for most of our recruits. With exceptions, i.e. GWright, we do not compete across the board with UT for recruits. Secondly we often feel battered sitting between UA and UGA. Many AU fans/grads live in GA or Alabama and they hate the "home' state team. We play them every year just like you do and I can assure that the overwhelming number of AU fans root for TN in those games. AU would love to see TN once again super competitive with UA and beat the crap out of UGA. UA is our most bitter rival and UGA is second. TN is a SEC rival but not "hated" by most AU fans. Hope that helps explain.

What you are saying makes a lot of sense, but honestly, after the Scam Newton fiasco, I just have felt like I can't pull for AU because I don't think it's a "clean" program. I will pull for you guys against the Bama's and Georgia's, but I just have a hard time outside of AU playing our bitter rivals.

Btw, welcome to the board. Bring your Auburn perspective and don't be a homer about it. We are a UT board and are the only ones allowed to be homers!

I just want to land Derrick Green. I know the coaches are confident. I just hope nothing changes when he visits other places. Damn we could really use him next year.

MarathonVol - I understand the determined thinking about Cam Newton and I did not come here to change thinking about Newton or AU. I do agree with lots of AU folks that we have more "enemies" in the SEC than between AU-UT. I also did not come here to troll. I will join in when I can share information.
