'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

To me, this has always been the guy we need at RB. When I first ran across his highlights and started this thread, I wanted to see him be a Vol. I hope we pull this one off...

We need this kid bad at UT. He is beast! He will be instant power RB that makes defenses respect our running game. The addition of this kid will make our whole offense better. The only player we lose on offense is Hunter. With Bray, CP, Rivera, Pig, Croom, Dallas, our returning O-line, and the addition of Green....WE WILL BE HEAVY CONTENDERS FOR SEC CHAMPIONSHIP.

Rivera and Dallas Thomas are both Seniors.

Why are we losing Hunter?

People, Justin Hunter is a top 10 pick. If he makes it through the year healthy, he is gone.

How do you figure? We don't know if Hunter is declaring early. We also don't know if he's not. Just like we don't know if Bray, Patterson, or any of the OL are declaring early. The only ones we know for sure we're losing are D. Thomas, Z. Rogers, and M. Rivera on offense.

My bad...Rivera and Dallas Thomas are seniors...they are gone with Hunter. Hunter is on top of most recieving draft boards...he's gone if he stays healthy and I dont blame him. Also, I was refering to V. Dallas in previous post. The point is we will still have alot of talent on offense. Green would not only boost the run game, but open up the passing game even more by making teams respect a balanced offense. Defense will have a full season and offseason under belt with 3-4 scheme. We need a power back badly and Green is our best shot.

I wasn't following recruiting atbthw time, but weren't people really excited about Oku, Brown, Lane, and Neal out of HS? Why the assumption that DG would immediately impact as a RB?

I just want a freaking running back that can fall forward every time he gets hit. We need to be able to run on 4 and short all the time. We need to run on 3rd and 1-3.

Here's a recent interview with Green after the Florida game from a blog site I follow. He had lots of good things to say about the Vols... I know all kids do in recruiting but still good to know the coaches are selling the "We need you now" role. Would be Dooley's biggest freshman recruit by a longshot. Haven't had a dominant tailback in a while.

I agree. I think we are a great RB away from having a solid team next year. Our OL and DL will be as deep as ever and I expect our young secondary (Coleman, Thomas, Bonner, Randolph, and Gray) to really step up.

If Bray is gone we only need Worley to be a smart game manager like JPW or McCarron. The loss of Hunter I think would hurt most but we have some young talent and another JuCo WR wouldn't hurt.

We need a TE (preferably 2) in a bad way though. I don't trust Merideth to be healthy and that leaves Downs and whoever we recruit.

Second year Patterson will be fine at WR. Also second year Pig, Bowles, Croom, and Blanc will be serviceable targets at worse.

Coleman and crew will be much better at CB.

McNeil will the star at Safety for us. Kid could be special.

LB playmakers must be found outside of #45 and #56.

D-line will be much better than in past years because of quality depth.

TE totally slipped my mind. We need a JuCo guy bad.

He has 1st or 2nd round talent. If he grades at a 3 or 4 round pick, expect Dooley to 'splain some numbers to him
