'13 TN RB Devaun Swafford (UT Committ - GS - 12/29/12)

Great player with tons of raw potential. He will be a project but if he gets into a good weight program and bulks up without losing any speed, he could be a great slot or safety prospect. I know for a fact that when Dooley was recruiting Foreman, they did not want to drive the 90 miles to Kingsport to see him and instead wanted to wait until DB played Maryville, so it would be a closer trip...pathetic! Good to see your new staff trying to keep some in-staters at the flagship.

Watched this kid torch my high school alma mater the last few years. I think after a couple of years in a sc program he will make a productive slot receiver for us. Best of luck Mr. Swafford, always good to see a kid from 5 min away earning great opportunites!

I will always pull for a kid who wants to be a Vol. No playing games, no flip flopping and playing up twitter. The kid is even willing to step back and wait a year. I trust he will give his all for Tennessee when given the chance. Ya have to pull for a kid like that.

Why even talk about this kid. 4.72?

Because the staff felt he was worthy of playing football for Tennessee?

Have to love when a poster knocks a recruit about his speed and says he's not even worth talking about. 20 bucks says Swafford could line up vs said poster in a 40 yard dash and beat him while Swafford is running it backwards.

What a prospective Tennessee athlete could do in a race against a poster on here is completely irrelevant. He will not be playing against volnation posters, he will be playing against other D1 athletes.

Mods, can we change this kid's class to '14 because he will be in next year's class?

This may not be a "package deal" the way people are making it out to be. Malik switched to UT partially because he wanted to play with Swafford, but UT was interested in Swafford regardless. My source is a parent of one of their teammates, FWIW.

Only 22 guys start on offense and defense. How many normal scholarship players never see the field? The answer is a bunch.

Give this guy a chance. We haven't lost a scholarship by taking him. If he never sees the field, he will have lots of company. :boredom::boredom:

i would rather use the scholarship this year then next if we can because next years class will be loaded......:)

Only way it makes sense to give him a scholorship this year is if we take less then 25 including him or less. Thats the only way to increase next years class.

We back counted 2, so we can sign 27 this year, and that means 28 next year if we sign 24 or less.

Therefore if he is 25 this class or number 28 next class does not matter.

If we get more then 25 commits without him, makes more sense for him to wait to maximize numbers and the fact he probably doesnt see the field the first couple years.

I am talking if we do not fill the spots all up. It would be stupid not to fill it with him.

Also consider we have a huge class graduating this year I believe, so some may depend on the 85 scholarships if we have enough attrition we could let him enroll.
