I don't know anything about Staver so I can't speak for his talent or lack of it. He's coming in with a chip on his shoulder so I'm sure he'll work his ass of to get better. I'm sure a few guys at UT that will do the same because the instate school(s) passed on them. It's the nature of the beast.

This. As always I trust our coaches evaluations. They seemed to pass on the kid. I think its a bit hypocritical considering how TN recruits and all the under the radar guys we have committed to poke at Florida for taking a kid who's also under the radar. Maybe UFs coaches saw something. Either way, congrats on the pickup, but im glad we have Fergie;)

UF offered 9 QB s and 6 committed to instate schools. Only Bateman, Burns and Max committed OOS. Bateman was the top guy on the board and he committed to Bama. Can't blame him for many reason but mainly bc of the long relationship with new OC. UF was really "after" a top QB this class because of numbers and having 3 Soph QB on the roster...staff wants to take a QB every year so I guess Max was the filler in this class. Rumor is two is the number for '14 and the top target could come within a few weeks.

Hmmm. No doubt that UF's current QB situation isn't spectacular, but I'd say its a little early to write off either Driskel or Brissett. Honestly, (and I realize that vol fans have already bashed this "excuse") they were thrown to the wolves last year far before being ready. Driskel has all the physical tools but was and probably still is raw. Brissett was starting games against the top defenses in the country last year during his first semester on campus, given that he didn't enroll early. How would any of the Vols freshman fair against those odds?

Could just be my orange and blue shades but I think its a little early to call the situation "disastorous", especially given the lofty rankings they had out of high school. Those rankings are probably part of the reason UF whiffed on top targets. Not trying to single you out, but the "now or never" attitude of some people amaze me. Its similar to all the "experts" that decide an NBA, etc series is over after one game. Truth is, Brissett and Driskel have time. However, if they struggle this year like they did last year then I'll really worry.

Tyler Bray is great..............but he wasn't exactly an all american his freshman year. Was he better than UF's QB's? Yes, but he still struggled some......and that was against defenses that weren't nearly the caliber of LSU or Bama.

On another note, I'm not nearly as familiar with Staver as you. Why exactly are you so down on him?

Wouldn't it be wise to take one stud in 2014 since landing 2 'studs' a couple yrs ago is partially the reason you're in the predicament you're in?. IJS

No. Brantley and Driskel both got hurt and forces Brissett into action. One was suppose to RS last season to give a year of separation between the two.

Not unless the named starter just shows out during fall camp and the first few games. IF Brissett loses the job I could see him transferring out but Driskel will stay because of baseball. I could see him RS this yr or next then getting rein for 2 years.

Driskel isn't going anywhere. The kid is a rock star around town and knows if this football thing doesn't work out Sully will get him some MLB money. IF he transfers he'll still have to sit out a year so either way he won't be starting until his Jr season. If Gus was still at Aub I could see that being a landing spot but he's not going to follow Urbs.

Right, makes much more sense to prefer the instate kid that our coaches have evaluated for awhile now and decided was not worth the offer (infact the only schools that decided he was worth an offer were TSU, Norther Colorado, Memphis, Louisville, Mississippi State, and Florida as their ninth option), over the player that our staff, Alabama's staff, LSU's staff, Michigan's staff, LSU's staff, and Clemson's staff wanted :crazy:. The elite 11 also agrees with your assesment :crazy:
