'13 TN OL Brett Kendrick (UT Commit)

At the most, you know we took zero last year.

But took like 6 year before. I will say though, if we are going to sign more than needed in an area, OL and DL is the place to do so. They make the skilled position players look better, especially QB and RB because they give the QB time to throw and the RB room to run. DL just the opposite.

"They brought me into camp and they were all over me," Kendrick said. "When we went to 1 on 1's they moved me out to right tackle and moved me out of my comfort zone to see how I would react and apparently I responded well."

He responded so well that Tennessee pulled the trigger and offered the west Knoxville product. His reaction was to quickly return the favor.

"I really didn't know what to say," Kendrick said. "I was really excited and my mom started crying. It was just a really great feeling. I told him that I grew up here and that I loved this school and that it's where I've always wanted to play."

Also, Kendrick and Sanders were recruiting Dylan Wiesman pretty hard throughout the day.

Brett will be an EE. I guess the fall is so busy with football that they have to take the minimum number of hours. That means in order to graduate on time they have to take summer classes.
It seems like he will most likely redshirt as well. I don't know where everyone is getting that he is going to be a guard for sure. I think it is TBD.

Thanks for the info. I don't think anybody is saying that he will be a guard for sure, just hubbs and others project him there

His first camp and gets an offer...speaks for his abilities.
Correct me if I am wrong but he has only played one year of varsity football (he sat because of transfer rules in Tennessee)
Kid has a bright future!
Also, it does not hurt having Mark Bradley as your high school o-line coach (Mark coached O line at UT during the 90s)

 Congrats Kid make your family proud. This is what being a Vol is all about.

Wow, just a great story. He is living his dream. I hope he has nothing but success while he is here. :loco:

I'm pumped that he'll be an EE. And I'm excited that we have enough depth to redshirt him too.

I'm a huge fan of this kid. I don't care if he never gets a star on Rivals he will be good because the coaches know what to look for and he loves TN. I'm tired of having guys commit and then decommit and play this "Look at me game", we need guys like Kendrick who know it is an honor to put on that UT Orange on Saturdays and will give their all for TN everyday. GBO!

That means nothing if they aren't SEC talent. Those "look at me" kids at Florida and Alabama are still going to push them around.

The coaches that do this for a living, see a 6'5" 290lb kid go off in a camp and say... "get him" and you gotta' second guess. Really?!!!! ???? !!!!

Must be a great feeling being a Vol all your life, then getting that offer, and committing on the spot, VFL through and through, living the dream. Go Vols!

For the star gazers, I wouldn't expect Kendrick to be bumped very high when Rivals ranks him. IMO he will end a 5.6 3*. He isn't going to anymore camps so he won't get the chance to add to his offer list, or have Rivals see him in person.

I believe the coaches know that he is SEC material, their not going off of the fact that he lives UT. He is SEC material and it's a bonus that he bleeds Tennessee orange as well. Just because he is not a look at me kid means nothing.

Somebody tell me what he looks like on the basketball court please. Serious.

If a big guy plays hoops ok, its a damn good sign for coordination and decent footwork, as well as quick thinking.

Kendrick, Sanders, and Patrick are good example of what we're up against every year in recruiting. It's the same in Ga., Bama, Florida etc.. Young kids growing up watching their home state schools playing on Sat. Dream of someday playing in that stadium. Unfortunately for us these states (and Tx.) simply reload early every year with the 4*-5* talent early by position needs and we compete for what's left (along with everyone else). It's actually impressive when u look at what CDD and UT does to actually bring in competitive talent from other states.. IMO. Hate to even bring it up but Memphis just isn't what I wud call a true UT market. Kids grow up watching Ole miss, Ar. MSU, and Bama knowing its only 2-4 hours away from family. UT might as well be in another state to those kids. Yeah they get the "u need to stay in state talk" but it's just not the same..

I'm normally not one to complain but hopefully he outplays his rating (or lack thereof) and offer list (or lack thereof). Yes I know the coaches think he can play, and we can't question them bc they've never been wrong.

It's more about people complaining that haven't seen kids play and wouldn't know what to look for anyway, then questioning a coaching staff that evaluated him in person for a couple of days. A staff that has seen a lot of NFL talent in front of them on the field.

If you see some football skill reason its bad, bring it.

Never seen the kid play and have never heard of him before he committed. I keep up with Tennessee HS football somewhat but not like I used to. For all I know he may just be extremely raw at this point and end up being an excellent player. Maybe our coaching staff is just good at finding every diamond in the rough...I mean the kid even seemed surprised about it all. I'm happy for him, I'm sure it's a dream come true. Like I said, I just hope he outplays his rating and offer list.

His HS team plays in a pass happy offense, they throw the ball 40-50 times a game. Chaney & Pittman went to evaluate him during his HS Spring practice & liked what they saw, they told him if he came to camp & peformed well against the DL competition that he would earn a offer. They wanted to see how physical & mean he would be in run blocking, apparently he did well enough to earn a offer.

Alabama was also evaluating him.

The coaches said "get him" to Henderson, Cross, Power, and Redding. Clearly they were wrong in those regards. Fortunately they upgraded.

I don't like this pick up. So what? I'm happy with the rest of our recruiting thus far. Sue me.

The funny thing is that the beginning of the Austin Sanders thread starts out with no one knowing who he is and people second guessing the offer. Rivals "talent evaluators" probably watched 5 minutes of tape on him and designate him as a 4 star prospect and then it looks like a good pickup for ut to the internet star-gazers.
The fact that Brett doesn't have a ton of offers is really due to him only going to 2 camps. Randy Sanders came down to CAK to watch him practice and invited him to Kentucky's camp. When Brett got there they didn't know who he was and just put him in with the kids they weren't evaluating. After a while they figured out that he was actually worth evaluating and put him with those kids. He did really well, and Sanders called the next day asking for him to come back on an official visit, but he and my parents both were not impressed with anything about UK's football program so they decided not to.
He has talked on the phone to Chavis a couple of times and was asked to camp with LSU, he was invited to Alabama for their junior day (I think), Colorado has expressed a lot of interest in him, as well as Clemson and Wake Forest. I guess my point is that Brett hasn't really shown much interest in any program besides UT because that's where he wants to be. If UT hadn't offered him I'm sure he would have gone to several more camps, but what point is there in doing that now? So he can show the E-thugs that he isn't a scrub?
