'13 TN OL Brett Kendrick (UT Commit)

Kendrick has been in contact w/ Dan Skipper, Austin Sanders, & Reeves Koehler. He calls & texts them all the time. He isn't able to be a EE b/c of his HS. He is at 295lbs right now but wants to be at 320lbs when he gets to campus. He will try to be at every home game this year. - per 247 article

Koehler is really going to surprise people when he announces for UT at the Army AA game. :birgits_giggle:

Pittman told him that he and Austin were going to be the next two tackles. Of course that was before they signed Skipper. He knows they are going to put him where they need him the most, but no one has told him he will be a guard to this point.

Think Pittman sees OT & will recruit tackles for their size - 6'5" + long arms and if they can beat out the other OTs for the tackle spot keep them outside -
if not they can always slide inside to get the best 5 on the field. Easier for OT to slide in than an OG to slide out.

Never hurts if he can find someone like Koehler who may not possess the ideal measurements but can be nasty at one of the inside OL spots though.

Kendrick at 6'5" 320 as incoming freshman plus the other 3 - looks like a really nice OL haul put together.

I wrote this over in Sander’s thread, but right now Tennessee has about a zillion guard-types, they are good inside. What they need are some more tackle-types. Next year you’ll have James a Senior, Tiny a Junior, and nobody else that’s an upperclassman (outside). Now that you made me think about it, all three of those guys could end up at tackle.

Possible 2013 depth:

LT: Richardson (JR), Posey (SO-RS), Kendrick (FR)
RT: James (SR), Sanders (FR), Skipper (FR)

Edit-I missed Posey.

Honestly, I think what happened is UT's staff projects him at guard and Thunder5 put enough pressure on rivals through his constant posts about rankings and player evaluations that Farrell and company finally gave it a look and changed it. Although it backfired a bit because they changed him from tackle to guard but dropped him from a 5.6 to a 5.5 hahaha.

Thunder loves to call out rivals analyst on VQ to get their act together and update rankings and whatnot. He's relentless and I love it.

A salute to you Thunder5 :good!:

The thunder abides :)

Kendrick & his CAK team is playing Grace Christian on MyVLTV right now if you live inEast Tennessee.

J. Moore, what's the deal with Malachi Horton from Morristown West? Just didn't know if he had grade issues or something. Dudes tearing it up, yet not a word about him from anyone.

I haven't heard anything about him. West plays my old high school later this year so I might go over there & watch.

Thanks J! I'm an old West Trojan. Not trying to over hype the kid, but he can play. Will be interesting to see what he does against a loaded Science Hill team tonight. I also know West keeps a stable of backs annually, so it's not uncommon to see a very good back have to sit till his JR or SR yr over there. I know his 200 yd performance against a good Harlan County team was superb. I know Greenville lost a lot, but his 293 yds against them was nice. You and I both know how deep that rivalry runs. And West doesn't run a gimmicky offense. Straight pro style, right at ya. There o-line is huge, their TE is 6-6 260. They are pretty solid. If you get a chance, go watch them.

Sounds like we need to be recruiting the tight end...

When did you graduate?

Saw him at the game. He's about an inch and a half to two inches taller than me. Legit 6'5" or 6'6". His frame reminds me a lot of Posey. Big kid.

"I'm still committed to UT," Kendrick said. "I'm excited about my opportunity to play for Tennessee. As long as coach Pittman stays at UT then I'll be there. He's my coach and I know he will honor my scholarship. As long as the new coach will honor my scholarship then I'll be at Tennessee. I really want coach Pittman to be back because he's done a really good job."
