According to Scout he is the number 4 punter on the board. But he has no offers. What's going on with this? We obviously need some help on the P/K front. We gotta keep in-state/in-city prospects home. Someone with some insight help me out here...

He may be the number 4 punter in the country, but if he comes to UT I am sure we can coach him out of it. That is one area where we have been successful.

Honestly, I hope this new coaching staff can actually coach kicking. It has been a while.

I guess I am just confused as to why the #4 ranked kicker in the country has no offers. There must be something else going on.

Is he also a field goal kicker? Or strictly punter? Because a little competition to our Palardy wouldn't hurt IMO.

UT has a number 1 ranked punter (Darr) on the roster now, and he lost his job to the place kicker.

Averaged 46.9 yards per punt and recently named the Ray Guy Prokicker.com National High School Player of the Year. Only five of his 35 punts were returned and he had 11 punts downed inside the 20.

The Air Force Academy and Tennessee Tech have tendered offers to King who also has preferred walk-on status with Southeastern Conference powers Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee. He is weighing all options before deciding.

“I’m praying about where the right place is for me,” he said. “I’m keeping my options opened.”

King, an admitted fan of the Tennessee Volunteers, said it’s important to consider all aspects in the recruiting process.

Would LOVE to see this kid walk on at Tennessee.

Me too! There was a guy that has been posting on here. He said he was trying to join the team as a preferred walk-on next year. Has he identified what position he plays? (I do not remember the username of the guy)...Just curious if it was the same guy?

Preferred walk-on, eh?

Is this when the prospect asks for a scholarship and the coach replies, "nah, we'd prefer you walk-on"?

It's more like saying, you got some talent and we wouldn't mind having you on the team but our scholarships are needed to lock up other positions of need.

Some players won't choose to walk on if they can get school paid for. Just makes sense for alot of kids/families. Good luck young man.

Before you flame, John and Jimmy made a good point today, one previously made by our own JMoore. If we do come up short of filling out the roster, why not give this kid a scholarship. Us, Bama, others tried to get him as a walk-on, but he chose Tennessee Tech. So my guess is he would flip in a heartbeat for a ride to UT. Wouldn't be surprised if that is part of Butch's backup plan.

With them having scheduled the kicker Gentz to visit this weekend, I think they are going in a different direction. JMO
