'13 TN ATH Jalen Ramsey (Former USCw, now FSU commit)

I agree with this statement wholeheartedly; however, the other statement is a bit of a stretch, IMO. If Ramsey were not an athlete then by all means a degree from Vandy could/would most certainly hold more weight than a degree elsewhere but as an athlete you're afforded more opportunities thru the ppl you know and more importantly the ppl that know you. Larger stage = more ppl that know you = greater opportunity.

You'd be surprised at how many job opportunities I've come across because of my playing days rather than because of my degree.

Very true, "it's not about what you know, but who you know"....but a Vandy degree won't hurt either lol.

Valid. You're str8 with me.

SN: How hard has learning Sal's defense been not just for you but for the defense as a whole? Huge learning curve? Most of us think it will play to the strengths you displayed in HS. Question is do you think that's a fair assessment?

It's been a task...but it's going pretty good. Coach Sal is a great coach...real tough and passionate. We finished 7th defensively in the SEC last year...which is right in the middle. Unacceptable. But I think with the new 3-4 scheme we can finish top 3 easy. The 3-4 is so unpredictable and it tailors to our strengths. Our linebackers are big, fast, and athletic.. and they have great depth..our d tackles are huge...our secondary is very underrated....plus we're returning 8 starters so that always helps.

That's all well and good and as a former college athlete and engineer I appreciate a good focus on academics. However, having Vandy as a 2nd option sends mixed messages as to what your priorities are. On one end you go to USC because you subscribe to the 3 and done model and feel that playing there would prepare you for the next level then you (Ramsey) go against that and say I'm concerned with the academics and not necessarily the sh*tty product you CONSISTENTLY put on the field.

Oxymoron.

I was under the impression that Southern Cal was a very reputable univeristy in terms of academics. Maybe not quite the level of Vanderbilt but certain ranked higher than UT.

I think the reason we're trailing USC and Vandy has to do with who is doing the recruiting. If you are easily sold by snake oil salesmen, then you will have Kiffin and Franklin at the top of your list.

Kiffin isn't jalen's main recruiter, and that's not why we're trailing.

You would be correct in your assessment. USC nor the six pack/12 pack/PAC 12 (depending on your drinking qty. of preference) is no slouch when it comes to academics. I was focusing moreso on the rationale of why the decision primarily was made. That way you have more of an apples to apples comparision. If preparing for the NFL was the primary decision then Vandy as #2 does not make sense.

Yes it is why.. And if u think kiffin isn't in on every big time recruit being recruited by usc, ur crazy.. Half his staff is as dirty as he is anyways.

Preciate your thoughts.

I wouldn't argue with you. I'm no insider. I just read what every other joe does on the sites.
I just think it's an interesting observation that Ramsey's top two schools have basically the same "guy" as the head coach.

Is Bonner the deal, like the early reports are indicating?

Tee is all over jalen...and we didn't lose out on him because of the recruiters, we lost out on him because he just doesn't want to go here....really didn't matter who was doing the recruiting.

Moose/Eric, if Jalen never wanted to go to UT, then why in the world did he visit so many times? I think someone said at one point he had been up there around 10-12 times. A lot of friends or what?

Idk about 10-12 times....but yeah friends certainly played a part...I know he went up there with rashaan (gaulden) who is a good friend/teammate...but you still have to test the waters, ya kno? plus ut is only about a 2 hour drive from Nashville...so it's not that hard to get to.
