'13 TN ATH Jalen Ramsey (Former USCw, now FSU commit)

Skeet, do you know how involved De'Vinner is with JRM's recruitment?

Not sure. im sure hes involved, anytime Tennessee positions itself nicely with a instate recruit, dewiener seems to get involved. amazing how this guy convinces a family he has the kids best interest at heart. im sure if Tennessee "donated" to the dewiener foundation or whatever its called, all would be good.

Can we all agree to NOT post any replies to big coach no matter what he comes on here and posts? I think that this strategy would best serve the interests of UT. And if the Ramsey's do read here, it would prove to them we are above that kind of petty BS.

I've made this claim in one or two other threads before. Good luck with it! You're right, though, if people just ignored others that make intentionally confrontational statements, all would be better. Heck, it's even a possibility that that particular poster would just go away. Some people just thrive on confrontation and they come here seeking it. We just give them more fuel to make them feel all warm and fuzzy inside. We can wish otherwise, but the back and forth will unfortunately continue.

I agree, if you are from TN and you plan to spend your professional life in TN, then your home state schools and the education they offer should be the highest priority on your list of schools to attend.,

I don't know the Ramsey family nor Jalen Ramsey's educational goals and priorities so I will not comment on either UT or Vandy. but here are a couple of facts about USC:

I will say that USC does have some positives that are overlooked.

1. USC describes their students and alumni: Trojan Family and a quote is "you are a Bruin for four years and a Trojan for life" which is regarding the alumni support USC grads (not just FB players) receive from alumni worldwide. This is a fact, when one searches the USC alumni clubs worldwide that provide support to USC grads in their professional life.

2. Assoc HC Baxter is recognized in the football college world for the academic plans he puts together for each USC football recruit and player. This is a great selling point to parents. He has been given awards for his program, plus they meet with the USC Prez and AD Haden (a former Rhodes scholar) to reinforce academics.

3. USC is a private university now ranked 23rd,academically, in the country. (USNews/World Report). The private university aspect is extremely attractive to parents, whose kids are attending private HSs for their academic discipline. If one checks their 2013 verbal commit list, it is populated with recruits coming from private and parochial schools. Ditto 2012.

BTW, Harris went out to USC with his mother for a two day unofficial, and ended up staying a week. Don't know if that is relevant.

Although Hatcher has said favorable things about USC, USC does not have an animal medicine or veterinary school; his and his mother's stated career goal for him. TN has one of the best, which should be a key factor

If I were UT, I wouldn't touch a single kid De'Vinner is involved in. That dude is BAD news!!

He takes it upon himself to make UT look bad to every kid in the midstate/west TN area because he got pissed when Dooley wouldn't "donate" after seeing Kimbrow at camp last year.

USC's campus is also adjacent to one of the worst crime areas in the city.

The mission of The Byron De’Vinner Foundation is to allow kids throughout the Southeast the opportunity to excel whether in sports or in the classroom. Through positive examples we want to create better opportunities for kids to succeed in life.

Byron also feels through his foundation, he can be a role model to show kids that it doesn't matter where you come from, what matters is how hard you work to get what is yours at the end of the tunnel.

Ramseys choice has nothing to do with education.

Every recruit decides on a SCHOOL, therefore education is always a factor. UT's VFL program is a beneficial factor to any recruit, and an SEC fanbase in which you are a celebrity instead of blending into scene in LA. As a student at UT, and someone who has spent time at USC for many summer programs I can understand the attractions of going there academically, but from a football stand point its not comparable to UT. 100,000+ stadium, being forever adored in your home state, best conference in the nation, southern hospitality, better chance of early play time, and most importantly NOT playing for a deceiving A-Hole, Lane Kiffin. Either way you cannot honestly say that his choice has nothing to do with education

There needs to be an IQ requirement before posting on here. I remember when there used to actually be intelligent conversations on Volnatiion. How about we end this thread and start getting pumped for the season. 10 wins and we'll probably be in on some higher rated guys anyway.

By the end of the season, Ramsey will be as highly rated as anyone. It's a big loss for UT but I want players that have the desire to be a VFL. If you don't have that desire then I wish you the best of luck elsewhere. I just wish people would stop trying to influence these kids and let them make their own decision.

His choice has nothing to do with education, if he, buck or anyone in his family says otherwise, its simply just a deflection. He is sold on 3 and done. Its all about who will get you to the league faster, but lets ignore the fact the sec is the best training grounds for the nfl in the country.
He is also working Jason Hatcher hard to join him at usc, knowing Jasons longtime dream is being a veterinarian after football. USC doesnt even offer animal medicine or any type of veterinary schooling that im aware of. Does that seem like someone that is concerned about academics to you? Im putting this out there now, because some close to Jalen will try and use this angle, and its complete and utter bs.

Yes its a big loss. Tennessee done a very good job of recruiting Jalen and his family. CJG has the best chance of getting UT back in the picture.

Why doesn't he go to Bama or LSU then? I think we have some pretty good corners already on our roster and that also factors in his decision. Bonner, Gray and Coleman will be studs.

2013 USC Football Targets

USC only has 15 scholarships and have 11 committed and 2 DB's commits

USC is in with a bunch of top DB's already so who knows if J. Ramsey will even be able to go, and all we need is wins to revive our program and recruiting which I think it is very possible for us to reach 9 wins

Ramsey can be 3 and done ANYWHERE that he plays in the country, especially at UT. USC is not the only school that can prepare him for that plan. IMO something or someone else came into play. It's hard to believe that kids and their families can't see through some of the garbage that they get fed. Skeet, thanks for the info that you provide.

He apparently thinks monte is only guy that can put kids in the pros.... Who knows if monte can even coach in two yrs

West Coast, West, Coast, West Coast! Hell I wanna go to the West Coast. This kid grew up a bandwagon fan. That's how most kids grow up these days. These kids cheer for whoever is winning or is the most flashy. The kid is going where he thinks the money is. Yes he can go to the NFL with any school, but why not go where the weather is great, Hollywood, and hot women? Let him go. If I had cared in high school and made good grades I'd gone to college out of state as well. Next!!

Yeah, you make some good points. It's hard for us to accept as Vol fans, but sometimes different scenery just appeals more to folks. Also, like you said, I'd be willing to wager that most kids just aren't raised in families that are strongly this or that University. Some are, but most aren't. Here on VolNation we have a warped view of things; just because we're all ultra into the Vols (or any team, for that matter) doesn't mean that everyone else is. I've met a lot of different people on campus at UT, and, to be honest, a good deal of them couldn't give a darn about any particular college team, or even sports for that matter. They might root for UT because they're here, but, at the end of the day, they're not that big of fans to influence all of their decision-making, or their kids' for that matter. It's hard to believe but true.
