'13 SG Detrick Mostella (UT signee 5/7/14)

HUGE news! I think if he can keep adding muscle. He'll contribute pretty well this year. Hubbs/Mostella is a nice combo

we are going to be getting after people running 10 at teams with most of them being extremely athletic. Yeah we are going to get hurt inside at times but I picture energy and athleticism with arms flapping everywhere all over the court.

It's exciting that he's cleared, no doubt. I think this is a bigger deal for the future of the program than this season. Tyndall said he had a long ways to go (I'm paraphrasing) to becoming an effective SEC player a few weeks back. One could argue that's just coach speak or, on the other hand, coach could be down playing how good he actually is. Either way, I think we should temper our expectations of how productive he could be this year. We are already loaded at the wing position.

I say he is somewhere in between. We shouldn't have our expectations too high. That was the problem with Hubbs last year. Myself included thought he was going to come in score 10 or more a game. I know he was a 5 star but still, adjusting to the college game usually takes some time.

We have to remember he is coming in ranked similar to Golden and McRae and we all remember their freshman years. Every player is different but he has a lot of work to put in.

Hubbs was also injured all last year :/ and I bet thats why we saw a lot of hesitation.

Exactly, different players contribute differently, but past history suggests a player ranked 40-50 isn't likely to come in and be a star day 1.

I expect him to have a few holy s**t moments that probably make SC, a few break out games where he gets hot and scores 15+, and a few games where he's a complete no show. All in all, I don't think he starts (barring injury) and is probably a 15-20mpg 5-7ppg guy IMO.

Yeah, at this point his offensive skills are so far ahead of his defensive skills and rebounding that he will be a liability at times this season. We have more complete players at his position. I am, however, looking forward to the "Holy ****!" moments and the rest of his career.
