13 SEC running backs to watch and zero Vols??!!

I predict Kelly will have about 900-1000 yards putting him about 6th or 7th in the SEC in rushing yards. I think he is a very solid back but no Chubb or Kamara.

Unless he's getting 6+ YPC, anything less than 1,000 yards on the season probably won't even get him into the top 10 SEC backs next year, given the competition.

Speechless

98 carries, the vast majority of which came against the weaker defenses on the schedule, is not enough to effectively compare Kelly to the guys on the list. That isn't a knock on Kelly. That's a knock on Butch for feeding an inferior back at the expense of a better player.

If Hurd really asked to come back and became a walk-on, then it would be a great addition to the offense.
Everyone makes mistakes. I have a son about the same age as Hurd, if he made a mistake at 20 that did not break a law I would hope it would not be held against him for the rest of his life.
None of us know all the circumstances. What we do know is he is an elite athlete and playmaker.

Who was inferior?

Nothing like a little something to motivate the boys during Spring Training/S&C.

The backs that I would rate the highest in no particular order are Guice, Snell, Kelly, Webb and Scarborough.

I would rate Scarlett higher if he had more snaps but I'm happy with him sharing more of the load. Sony is very fast on the seams. Chubb isn't Chubb yet but Georgia had a disappointing OL last year.

Potential break out/surprise players: Blasingame, Chandler, Snell and Crockett.

John Kelly has the potential to be a really good running back, but the SEC is returning a ton of RB talent in 2017, and his numbers just don't compare to other backs. Not having him the upper echelons isn't a slight, it's just the state of the current field of competition. He'll have plenty of time to prove he's a top SEC back next season.

No, it's definitely a conspiracy against Kelly by the NegaVols

Chubb likely will go 80% to try to make it the full year. Too much at stake and cannot risk another setback.

JK is hungry... and will light it up next year.

Nah, not that. So often he would break a tackle just to get back to LOS and break another one to get his 1.8 yards. Then on the next play(usually just to the other side) the play would work and he would get his 4.

I was disappointed to hear that our line stopped blocking for him.

Please detail the evidence you have for the charge that our line purposely stopped blocking for him.

I'm not a big fan of Butch but with Hurd and Kamara, I'm not sure how many carries we could expect him to get. We caught a glimse of Kelly after Hurd bailed on his team and he looks like the real deal. Kelly not being on the radar at this point is not really a concern for me.

Agree

Kelly gets hurt and you're relying on freshmen

That's one of the more common positions for Fr to have success. Fils-Aime will be a Soph won't he?

If we're talking about individual RB's then Kelly probably deserves to be mentioned in the top 13. If we're talking about the whole backfield then you have a good point. No one else is proven.

Hurd was (is) notably inferior to Kelly.

Get over yourself. Hurd was 400 yards away from being our career rushing leader. Kelly had promise but no coach without an extra chromosome benches him for said promise. This smells like latent butthurt. "Notably" the strain resulting from Hurd stiffarming Saban during his recruitment. Hurd's downfall was mentally self-inflicted...not the result of talent or lack thereof.

His first season and half of last season he was third string playing mop up duty. Where are all these yards you're expecting supposed to come from? When you did see him play, you can see the skill and determination is there to be a special player for us.

He is an idiot of epic proportions who literally just makes things up and states them as facts. I am not certain he has ever watched an entire football game. I mean after all "who is going to replace Jalen Hurd?"

Negavols have the same influence on outcomes as Posivols...zero if you're keeping score (correct font).

Thanks for the clarification.

I was working under the false premise that Vol Nation posters(especially the gurus with their stats) had an undeniable, lasting affect on the program.

Blame Butch for not giving the kid enough carries to get a reasonable read on him.

JK got plenty of carries once Hurd took his ball and went home. Prior to that, not much chance for him to get a lot of carries. Even Saban isn't going to sit 2 5* so that a 3* can get a few more carries so that ESPN will be aware of him when they do their annual, but pointless, offseason 'best backs of the upcoming season' article.
