Akia Booker

WR, 6-0, 185, Byrnes/Duncan, S.C.

Booker is hardly an unknown commodity. He posted 20 touchdown catches as a junior and finished this past season with 82 catches for 1,549 yards and 18 touchdowns along with 410 rushing yards and eight more scores in Byrnes’ heralded offense.

But it has been widely accepted that he would not meet NCAA qualifying standards, thus snuffing his appeal.

A promising test score received last month, though, has given rise to hope that Booker can qualify if he puts in the work. Even if not, he could be a compelling placement for the ’14 class if the prep school route materializes. He has thickness and subtle speed for a receiver in his height range.

A number of college staffs have put themselves on the Byrnes call list should Booker continue showing academic progression.

Akia will be playing in the SC/NC Shrine Bowl this weekend. I'll be sitting with his mother and aunt I'll see if I can find out anything new.

Akia did not have a big impact today. He was targeted just a few times with, I believe, one catch. He ran the ball twice I think. The qbs from SC lacked the skills to get any of the receivers the ball. His aunt told me he picked up offers from UGA, UF and ND over the course of the week. His grades must be improving which would line up with what I was told by his mom several weeks ago.

Any grade info coming out on this kid at all yet? This kid would be a great late pick up at WR if he can qualify. I would expect USCe and Clemson to offer if he gets the grades in order. He "loves" UT, but we were his only offer.
