'13 SC DL Jaylen Miller (UT signee)

This guy sounded like he couldnt wait to committ and would at his visit. Can this staff close anyone?

We'll soon find out. They best sign 2 DTs.

I don't say a lot, but can't take it anymore. This is all we have been hearing from you on multiple threads. We get it. Move on.

I think Jones and staff want to save all their powder for the big final series of booms. Putting committed on Rivals etc doesn't really help them reel in the fence squatters anymore than just having the "silents" recruit behind the scene.

Well, that's an easy answer. Yes. They have secured at least 6 or 7 commitments since they took over in early December.

You think they are orchestrating delayed commitments? Could be with this staff. I could see them liking gimmicks like that.

Personally, though, I think they'd prefer just to get the commitment, make it official and have the kids shut it down.

My guess is Tennessee is being negatively recruited against extremely heavily because we've sucked for so long, and these kids are a little hesitant to pull the trigger for us - especially with a new coaching staff that is unproven in the SEC.

I'm actually not surprised closing down these commitments is hard. The fact that we are even in it with a lot of these guys is what's surprising to me (in a very good way).

That's where a Big Name coach comes into play. Hopefully CBJ's product on the field next year will turn heads.

I think before you criticize the staff on failing to close on "anyone", you should recognize that none of these kids who are in question have finalized their college selection.

Of course, if one's intent is to somehow take a shot at the staff, this is one way to do it...

Come on ... the staff is putting in the miles an effort to close these commitments. We're all at the whim and mercy of 18 year old kids here. You never know whether something as insignificant as a bad meal or "friendly" girl or a well-placed $100 bill will change their viewpoint.

All you can ask of your staff is they represent your university with class and bust their collective asses to bring high quality student athletes to your football team. So far, this staff has passed the smell test. Actually, they've passed it with flying colors. Sure, they'll miss on some of the kids we're talking about now. But I guarantee they'll close a few kids we had NO shot to get 2 months ago.

And yet dropped in the rankings because of who they lost. At this point they seem to be treading water. Ive been a jones advocate on this forum, but not seeing results on recruiting, yet. IMO, a lot of smoke not much fire. Staff seems to be exerting a lot of energy for the results. Recruiting is more than just a lot of activity.

Good points. I do expect them to pull a top 15 this year especially after putting in so much work. Next year top 10. Of course they will need to win some big games for that to happen more than likely.

Miller is going to be the closest thing we get to a DT in this class

I know TJ and BB moved on, but we're still pursuing Bryant ('Cane, jmo), Clayton (Tennessee, imo), and Swain. What's up?
