"Yes, I committed earlier today," said Smith. "Coaches from Tennessee and Ohio State came down (to the school). After speaking with the coaches from Ohio State, I just told them that I was committing. I told them 'I'm coming and I'm not taking any more visits and I'm going to Ohio State.'"
Smith, who had been offered by Ohio State back in October, made an official visit to Ohio State two weekends ago. At the time, the Ohio State coaching staff still needed to check things out in terms of Smith's transcript but once things checked out, Smith was given the green light to issue his pledge to the Buckeyes.
"It's close to home and they have a good coaching staff there," Smith explained. "They have great academics and I just felt like it was the best situation for me."
The Smith's relationship has went back a few years as Zach Smith spent some time recruiting Corey Smith when he was an assistant coach at Marshall.
"I had the best relationship with coach (Zach) Smith," he said. "He's just a good guy and I trust him."
Smith had weighed the possibility of making a final official visit to Tennessee this coming weekend but has scratched those plans and will not take any more trips.
