'13 OH QB Kyle Kempt

Butch and many of the staff are from/ have coached in Michigan and Ohio for many years. I believe getting a few kids from the Midwest every year will be in the plan. Jmo.

Yeah I here ya. Regardless where they recruit, CBJ has done a good job with the hand dealt at atleast getting top recruits to listen. I'm also pleased after all of the Gruden mania that such a high % of the fanbase has gotten behind he and this staff. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I really think these dudes are gonna do something here, JMO. Here's to a strong closing on NSD.

Couldn't agree more.

Being from Ohio I agree that Ohio has good players. Tenn. also has good players. We are very lucky to have Butch Jones in our town because he can get the best from both states. OSU has a system that if you come to campus we will offer. some players prefer that they make an offer before they visit. OSU can be cocky now but that will catch up with them and we will watch the UT football program grow. Good luck Butch Jones and UT recruits.

At Cincy, CBJ had recruited heavily in Florida. He's just maximizing his limited time this year.

Well, you do know his brother is now working for Butch Jones as a GA. So, it may not look to good if he takes Kyle at this time. Just saying...

Maybe this would help in getting him to grey shirt or walk on and get schol. for next year.

I don't see this kid walking on. He has some good offers on the table. If we are talking walk on, I hope its Charlie High. I would have no issue at all taking Kempt as a 2nd QB in this class on scholarship. He is going to be a good one IMO.

I am former resident of Ohio for 20 years. Massillon is not what it once was as a football factory. Cincy/Dayton is the area to concentrate on. Numerous programs in SW Ohio that have top talent that could serve as a pipeline for us. There is less allegiance to OSU and greater understanding of the SEC in that area.

Kempt appears to be a back-up plan to me. Will see how it all shakes out.

Plus you don't want to hurt chances with 2014 QB.

I've heard CBJ is in on a pretty good '14 QB, I don't think we need another in this class besides Ferguson. Having 3 on scholarship would normally seem perfectly fine to me, but after what happened to Maryland this year, I don't know.

I am a Massillon resident and have been for 36 years. You are correct, Massillon isn't what it used to be, but the talent that comes through here and through Stark County stacks up to just about anywhere in the state. You don't have to look to far on the rosters of many current and past D1 teams to find contributing talent from this area.

Kempt as I understand doesn't have an offer anymore from Tennesssee. When the coach's changed and Kyle had already committed to UC the offer went away. If he has received an offer from UT it is the quietess news around. I have spoken to Kyle on several occassions and didn't receive any inclination he was "reoffered".

He is visiting Oregon St. this week and one may suspect that if they offer he will take the opportunity to go back home and play in Oregon in a big conference. I see this as a great opportunity for a kid who I believe got a raw deal at UC.

I hope it works out for him in the long run. He is a great kid with a lot of upside. Where ever he lands he will be a solid asset.

Thank you for the opportunity to post my thoughts. Best of luck to UT this year in all sports.

Great 1st post and welcome to VN. Thanks for the info on this kid. I actually expected we would be taking this kid when his brother was hired here as a GA. Wish the kid nothing but the best.

For some reason I'm still thinking Kempt may be a signing day or day after that addition if we don't reach our scholarship limit with higher positions of need. I could also be totally wrong but it wouldn't surprise me.

I had thought about that as well. If we miss on a few guys, it would make sense to take talented kids no matter what position they play. Most schools having kids visit this late would be looking for an answer pretty quick I would think. We'll see how the Oregon State visit plays out.

I too lived in Ohio for years, and can mostly agree with this, and may just add one thing...
While SW Ohio does produce talent, and has less OSU allegiances, NE Ohio produces just as much talent, if not more, and I'm sure tha CBJ has many connections/contacts in that area from both of his previous jobs. Heck, even Michigan gets a huge portion of their talent from the greater cleveland area.

Fully agree - just see the SW side being easier to pull a recruit from than NE. NE probably has more talent overall than SW. Heck - Ohio is just a great state to recruit, period.

Thanks for the welcome. Kyle visited UCONN this week and is headed to Oregon State for a visit tomorrow.

Here is recent article about his situation and a few other schools he has on his list to visit before Feb. 6.

Miss. St., Syracuse, and UT

I get the feeling the staff wants to take Dobbs if he will commit. If he does not, I would not be surprised at all to see Kyle offered and quickly accept.
