'13 OH QB Kyle Kempt

A 6'5" 200lb 3 star Pro-style quarterback from Massillon, Ohio. Was committed to Cincy (At least until Tubberville pulled his scholly along with two others). Has an offer from UT. Just thought I'd pass it along. Thoughts?

if this year is a sign of things to come, it means this staff is going to look to the north more for recruits than the south.

it may be a 1 year deal though

I would think it would be a 1-2 year thing. They have built some relationships with the kids in this class and the next I would guess. Rather than roll the dice and hope some higher rated kids decide to buy into what CBJ is selling in the 6 weeks he has been here, he is sticking with the kids he knows. With a whole year to recruit for UT, I think we will see some great kids headed to Tennessee.

Ohio has talent. Unfortunately, Urban Meyer will get the most of it. I will say, OSU's doesn't necessarily have a stranglehold on Cincy. For lack of a better comparison, Cincy is like the Memphis of Ohio. It's just different than the rest of the state and there are a lot of people there who don't care for OSU. So there's some hope that we could poach some good players every now and then.

Good, accurate post. I grew up and went to HS in that area. Southern Ohio is populated with a lot of people whose families moved north from southern states to find work in the factories after WW II. A lot of them are still very oriented to the south and are well aware of how big UT and SEC football is. A lot of them come to east TN to vacation every year and eventually move here. It would not be a hard sale for Jones to pick up a few of that area's better players every year.

They have offered some Ohio guys but still they have offered alot more from the South. Not even sure his offer is committable, especially if they are chasing Dobbs, the AU QB committ and one of LSU QB committs.

It was also reported that the HC at Massillon wasn't happy with Tubs pulling the scholly. In fact he said as long as he's HC at Massillon that The University of Cinncinatti isn't welcome there. NOT good at all for Tubbs, Massillon is one heck of a program.

so is the entire south.

I believe the whole "going north" thing is a this year thing, though.

What's your point? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say CBJ knows how good the talent down here is. But for you to insinuate that our recruitment of Ohio is or should be a one time/this year only thing......BUTCH PLEASE!!

Their ties to Ohio is one of the things that intrigues me about this staff. We have a rich history with Ohio players. Check the 1st team all SEC and 1st team All American list all time for UT. You will see some of our best players ever are from Ohio.

I'm not saying spend 80% of your time there. But to ignore Ohio as you suggest would be ludacris at best.

Massilon is a D1 factory, good move by Butch

Where you at in Ohio? And yes, in-roads to Massillon is a great thing. I don't know what some people are thinking. Obviously Urban is gonna own Ohio. But to think we couldn't and shouldnt get 2-3 each year from the O as some suggest just blows my mind.

He slings it around pretty good and his receivers don't look at all bad. Wonder how he is at scrambling?

He never said to ignore Ohio. But I agree that that there is a lot of talent and we have a history of getting good players from there and I too hope we continue to recruit the state hard.

"I believe the whole "going north" thing is a this year thing, though."

I guess that comment just threw me for a loop. As far as I can tell most of the recruits we are in on are from the south... No?

Just going by the recruits who we talk about in the recruiting forum it would seem that way to me as well but I'm not sure who all the staff is going after whom we don't really discuss on here. The Jenkins commit was something I don't think any of us saw coming. So who knows who all the staff is actually after and where they are from..not me.

Lived in Ohio for 15 years before moving to Indianapolis, and Cincy area always has good teams. St. X produces a lot of talent. It is a bonus having connections there while building or renewing relationships in the South. CBJ was not my first pick but he has won me over so far, and I hope the Ws come with all the effort they have been showing with recruiting.
Btw, Dominique Booth plays like ten minutes from my house, and I really like the kid. Plays top division in Indiana, good speed and hands. Nice fit in our new system

Yeah I here ya. Regardless where they recruit, CBJ has done a good job with the hand dealt at atleast getting top recruits to listen. I'm also pleased after all of the Gruden mania that such a high % of the fanbase has gotten behind he and this staff. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I really think these dudes are gonna do something here, JMO. Here's to a strong closing on NSD.
