and in a stroke of comedic genius after Mcneil went on Twitter and announced he was committed to LSU :

RT @jcshurburtt: Per @Sheadixon McNeil is not a take for LSU right now, either. #Tigers

Omari Phillips 2.0? Or AJ Leggett 2.0?

Either way we need to give it a shot if he is interested in us.

It is a academic issue that dates back all the way to his 9th grade year when he was playing basketball at a private school. One of the main reasons he had to go to prep school this fall.

Also LSU has not taking his commitment and will not if he does not qualify which it does not look like he will . JM and UA parted ways last week and he was removed than from the commit lists for UA. It did not happen today.

From ESPN today:

The reason Alabama and McNeil parted ways comes from an academic issue that stems from his 9th grade year, according to McNeil’s high school coach, Antonio King.

“There’s a question about when he went to a prep school his 9th grade year as a basketball player,” King said. “It’s something we tried to get fixed from way back in his 9th grade year.

LSU coaching staff might not be able to take his commitment at this time either until the academic situation clears up.

From 247 last week:

We have talked with sources close to the situation and do NOT believe he will be a part of the Tide's 2013 signing class. For that reason, we are removing him from the commitment list. If the situation changes at a later date, we will let you know and make an adjustment. As of now, there's no longer reasons to consider him an Alabama commitment.

I doubt any school will go after him hard right now.

FWIW this kid is a huge talent. He only played one year of football in HS and this past fall at prep school. Major BBall player and great ath. He was suppose to be an EE and he probably would have seen the field as a true freshman. Big loss for the UA class. Still not sure why the staff did not wait to see if he could join the class in the summer.

The kid always had a big academic concern that was very well know in the Summer. I never understood why Bama accepted him commitment to begin with.

Assuming things would get worked out with the transcript issues from the prep school. The reason for going to Milford was becaus ehe ran out of eligibility to play in NC. The NCHSAA has a that states the year you start playing a varsity sport you have exactly 4 years from that point. He played varsity BBall as a 8th grader and that started his clock. So his senior year at Hillside he would not have been able to play any sport.

I thought it had to do with not taking the required amount of core classes.

Yes core classes. But for him to graduate in August like he did he had to have them completed. That is what he was suppose to do in summer school. But there it appears to be questions about classes taken or not taken. Think John Wall.
