I really believe Bama wanted Cooper Bateman as their #1 guy in this class. They slow-played Riley and everybody else they were in on.... then they decide to accept Parker McCleod's commitment. They only did that to secure/help with TJ's commitment also IMO.

I've seen both films. Riley blows PM out of the water. I don't even think PM was invited to the Elite 11. Riley has good zip on the ball and his footwork was better than I originally expected.

Loved this kids hs film, only thing I saw was he tends to lock onto his receiver. He turns his shoulders very well when running left and throwing. He should be a really good QB in a couple of years.

If Riley is as good as it appears, he will not red shirt. If he is as good a either of the two returnees, it would send the wrong message to further recruits if he is red shirted. Remember, we are selling the opportunity to play early and if we red shirt him the recruits lose confidence in the new staff.

Tyler Bray yeah, of course he wasn't all that, but he came in and made some plays that made people go "wow" as a freshman.

Watched him on ESPN, he has heart. Even with a broken finger he didn't stop, he didn't complain, he didn't make excuses. He did those navy seals drills just like everyone else. Respect for him!

RF said today he's thrilled to be a Vol, won't take anymore visits, and is recruiting heavily for Tennessee (mainly North).

I don't think that Ferguson would care either way if Franklin comes in or not he does not seem to be afraid of competition. Even as a high school senior he seems to have it more together than Bray did as a College Junior. I can't wait for Ferguson's time to shine when it does eventually come.

Thanks for providing the details that I was racking my brain for.

I remember a lot of dissension over it.

I'm not a fan of the Fulmer mentality, where you start seniority over talent. But I'm not a fan of Kiffin's mentality, where you overlook seniority to sell playing time. All things being equal, RSs pay off, and you start the talent that's been paying their dues.

Again, all things being equal, crapping on Worley/Peterman to burn a redshirt would be the epitome of ridiculous.

I disagree with both of these statements, especially the second one. The staff has brought in Franklin for an OV and they're also bringing in Dobbs and Smith, all 3 for the QB position. Now if they strike out on all 3 then yeah, Ferguson is likely the only QB taken. But if one of those 3 want to be Vols, they will be and will start out at QB.

VQ staff has said the new staff wants one of "their guys" at QB in this class. Not that they don't like Riley but that they want another guy, one they recruited.

My concern with this kid is his arm strength. IMHO, Worley who was knocked by the recruiting sites for arm strength had more on the ball in HS than this kid. Arm strength is obviously just one factor but he does not appear to be a "great" athlete either.

Wuerffel proved you can be a great system QB without great physical talent... so I am not saying UT does not want RF. I DO understand why the staff might want to use another scholarship at the QB position.

I think we need another QB in this class. Jones' O is more demanding physically on the QB...running the ball more than we're accustomed to. Therefore, I think we need another body. I dont think JF3 is ready as a freshman but I could see him being a capable 2nd option down the road IMO.
