It all hinges on whether they take his commitment.
And his teams will end up like Dooley's first year at UT. He can keep recruiting all the skill players he wants. Unless he starts getting SEC quality OL and DL he will only be king of the PAC 12. And there is very little satisfaction in that.
USC is getting a real numbers crunch. USC has 14 or 15 available scholarships. USC may be able to sign a few more if players leave, which is likely to happen. I think they'll take in the 17 to 18 range, which would get them to the 75 scholarship limit. Below is who they currently have committed:
QB - Browne
RB - Isaac
RB - Davis
WR - Mitchell
WR - Larue
WR - Massington
DT - Bigelow
DE - Fitts
LB - Hutchings
DB - Cravens
DB - Hawkins
Below is the best I could come up with regarding some of USC's top remaining targets:
WR - Paul Harris
OT - Nicol Falah
DT - Montravius Adams
DE - Greg Gilmore
DE - Carl Lawson
DE - Eddie Vanderdoes
DE - Jason Hatcher
DB - Max Redfield
DB - Tahaan Goodman
DB - Jalen Ramsey
DB - Cole Luke
DB - Priest Willis
Vanderdoes and Ramsey are USC locks. I think Priest Willis is really liking USC as well. Apparently Harris wants to commit as well. I think Goodman likes USC the most too, but I'm not sure if they would take him right now.
USC fans are claiming they can take 18 this year but I have no idea whether that's true or not
Check out the link below. USC can take 14 plus the number of underclassmen that leave (transfer, NFL draft, etc.). I think USC fans believe Woods will go pro (he's projected top-10 pick). Not sure where they are getting the other 3 from.

They only have 5 DT's on their roster. All underclassmen. 2 SO, 3 FR. They're going to need to take a couple this year.

With the way Kiffin is "building his program", it looks like potential recruits aren't the only ones envisioning a three year plan. Load up on skill players in the early years so that your program has flash. Win big early (largely can be attributed to M.Barkley). Chunk the deuce before the effects of front loading classes or the lack of attention paid to rebuilding the trenches catches up to you.
One would be naive to think that Lane's short tenure in the NFL did not leave a sour taste in his mouth. As soon as the opportunity presents itself, he's out. His hubris will be his demise.
It's hilarious that one of his selling points is that our coaching staff will not be around when in fact he already has one foot and shoulder out the door.
