Yea, let's all go ahead and realize this vet school thing is a unlikey for a D1 football player--i.e. you could prob file it next to Dr. Eric Berry, DDS office. And that has NOTHING to do with a kids background.
It's just a fact out of the 100 kids who go down the pre-medical/dentistry/vet/pharm route--that includes 16-30 units of organic chem/physics/calculus-- maybe 10-15 will be offered admission to a program. Out of that 10-15, maybe 8-12 will complete all (4) years; then comes the opening an office after a vet residency.
Ask any parent of a current football player what the term "student-athlete" means to them and most will smirk, indicating these guys spend 50+ hours or more in the football complex. Even Craig Krenzel with his near 4.0 in Molecular Genetics undergrad never made it to med school..and he won OSU their first natty in 40 years.
However, I'm in a win-win situation if it's down to USC or UT :dance2:
On NSD he will not sign with USC. He will stay closer to home. He will sign with either TENN or UL. His mom is going to have a LOT of say in this which will play in UT's favor.
Just out of curiosity, why would he announce for USC now then? If his mother doesn't approve or has reservations about her son going West then why allow him to announce in the first place? I sure hope we end up with this kid though. Would be nice.
So Hatcher is too slow to play DE, but he'll be fast enough to play 3-4 OLB? 3-4 OLBs need to be faster than a 4-3 DE.
By the way, posting a sub 4.7 40 time (electronic) as a HS junior is pretty damn fast. More than fast enough for DE or even LB.
Also, he's not "too short" or "not big enough". There are tons of successful rush DEs that play in the 6'2" 240+ lb range. That's what Hatcher will likely end up being in his RS Sophomore year.
what time is he going to announce, anyone know?

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Jason Hatcher Commitment Announcement
I really wish the coaches would have put the heat on this guy, and told him that if he commits to USC, then they will be pursuing other prospects, and that someone may take his spot. Deep down I really believe this guy wants to be a Vol...Ramsey and Kiffin got in his head a little and now he's questioning his thought process. He's taking the easy road by telling himself that he can commit at one place to reserve a spot, and then if we win big and the coaching staff is safe, then he can flip to us...he sees it as a win-win. If the coaches would have pressed him (and maybe they did...who knows), then maybe he goes ahead and commits to us, and tells Kiffie thanks but no thanks, Snake!
