'13 KY DE Jason Hatcher (USCw Commit)

Yea, let's all go ahead and realize this vet school thing is a unlikey for a D1 football player--i.e. you could prob file it next to Dr. Eric Berry, DDS office. And that has NOTHING to do with a kids background.

It's just a fact out of the 100 kids who go down the pre-medical/dentistry/vet/pharm route--that includes 16-30 units of organic chem/physics/calculus-- maybe 10-15 will be offered admission to a program. Out of that 10-15, maybe 8-12 will complete all (4) years; then comes the opening an office after a vet residency.

Ask any parent of a current football player what the term "student-athlete" means to them and most will smirk, indicating these guys spend 50+ hours or more in the football complex. Even Craig Krenzel with his near 4.0 in Molecular Genetics undergrad never made it to med school..and he won OSU their first natty in 40 years.

However, I'm in a win-win situation if it's down to USC or UT :dance2:

Just a FYI...you don't have to do a residency after graduating vet school. Those who do internships followed by residencies are looking to become board-certified in a specialty, such as small animal surgery or equine internal medicine.

On NSD he will not sign with USC. He will stay closer to home. He will sign with either TENN or UL. His mom is going to have a LOT of say in this which will play in UT's favor.

Just out of curiosity, why would he announce for USC now then? If his mother doesn't approve or has reservations about her son going West then why allow him to announce in the first place? I sure hope we end up with this kid though. Would be nice.

To ensure he has a spot. Obviously he's basing a lot on how UT does this year.

So Hatcher is too slow to play DE, but he'll be fast enough to play 3-4 OLB? 3-4 OLBs need to be faster than a 4-3 DE.

By the way, posting a sub 4.7 40 time (electronic) as a HS junior is pretty damn fast. More than fast enough for DE or even LB.

Also, he's not "too short" or "not big enough". There are tons of successful rush DEs that play in the 6'2" 240+ lb range. That's what Hatcher will likely end up being in his RS Sophomore year.

I was going by Rivals, which is showing Jason with a 4.82 40 time -- I have not seen a "sub 4.7" 40 time for him, but I hope for his sake you are correct. I would be curious as to when he was timed for each -- perhaps the faster time was before he added weight and bulk, I don't know. 4.82 is more typical for a 4-3 SDE and a bit slow for a 4-3 WDE, the position which he will probably line up at USC due to his lack of enough size to line up against larger TE's, HB/FBs, and the occasional OL if he were to play SDE. Of course what matters most is what kind of "burst" he has at the snap, and Hatcher is good at that, for sure. Not many front 7 folks need to run a 40 in a game very often, and Hatcher is quick for his size.

In a 3-4 Jason would probably play the "Jack" LB although he could be an ILB depending on what package we were running.

Overall, as I said I really like our chances of flipping Hatcher in the last half of the season if we are playing well and winning games like I believe we will.

Isn't Hatcher announcing today? I assume since nobody is talking about it he's headed to USuck. So what's the feeling on the board?

I would be curious why so many on this board think Hatcher is just picking USC to hold a spot? Is it just our fans hoping he would change his mind if we win 8-9 games? I doubt he has ever said that as Kiffy would not take his commitment if he had. Sometimes a kid just does not choose to be a Vol. No reason to try and grasp at anything fabricated or not in hopes of turning them.

Like Skeeter said Trojan FOR NOW! Everybody chill! He said in an interview at the opening that he really likes CSS and CDD. And he is mostly interested in how we do this season. It will be a fight till NSD. JMO

I really wish the coaches would have put the heat on this guy, and told him that if he commits to USC, then they will be pursuing other prospects, and that someone may take his spot. Deep down I really believe this guy wants to be a Vol...Ramsey and Kiffin got in his head a little and now he's questioning his thought process. He's taking the easy road by telling himself that he can commit at one place to reserve a spot, and then if we win big and the coaching staff is safe, then he can flip to us...he sees it as a win-win. If the coaches would have pressed him (and maybe they did...who knows), then maybe he goes ahead and commits to us, and tells Kiffie thanks but no thanks, Snake!

Unfortunately, that would have required some 'hot sauce'
