'13 JUCO DT Marquel Combs

Sounds like this guy committed to Ole Miss mostly for the sake of family. Wasn't he the one from Memphis that talked like he wanted to stay relatively close to home? Just trying to make sense out of an Ole Miss commit here. That's about the only thing that adds up.

If he was a take I'm scratching my head, because a couple months ago he was having trouble contacting our staff.

Ole Miss has a recruiting battle for JUCO commit Marquel Combs (Los Angeles, Calif./Pierce Community College) looming.

"I really can say that I've thought about (decommitting) at a point and time," Combs told T.J. Walker of CatsIllutrated.com. "But I feel like I'm just going to be a man of my word and stay committed, but like I told my coaches I'm also looking at other options."

Kentucky is the team that is gunning to flip Combs.

"(Defensive line coach David Turner) said I could come in an play and make an immediate impact," Combs said. "That's the most important thing for a junior-college player."

The defensive tackle should have the same opportunity at Ole Miss.

Combs also has offers from Arkansas, Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Oregon State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Utah and Washington State.

"It's probably just a feeling when I get there and how I feel with the fans and the team," Comb said. "Do I like the coaches when I get there, to provide for me like family? I always do my research."

Lol. And he probably isn't that good.

Nah the kid can play.. He's got a nice first step..If he was coming outta HS playing at this level he would prolly be a take atp but with a good DL rotation pretty much set for the next two years and a few young guys already on the roster who we will develop in time, Combs is prolly not a take

I would hate to be a recruiter as four weeks ago he seemed solid ole miss

starting day 1 is what he may be listening to

Correctly understnds he needs to make an impact pronto for pros to notice

well mannered and spoken young man

He should go somewhere like Cincinnati then if PT is most important. That staff has a lot of ties to Memphis. And they have a great Dline coach. Steve Stripling has always pumped out NFL defensive lineman when he was at Michigan and now Cincy.

They put out two first day DT draft picks last year in Derek Wolfe and John Hughes and this coming draft I'll be shocked if Walter Stewart and Dan Giordano aren't drafted high as well. That'll be 4 Dlineman in 2 years.

I dont know why anyone would want to go to UK. That's as bad a program and coaching staff as you'll ever find.

He can play but he has the find the right system to develop him. I agree if he wasn't a JUCO he'd be a definite take for the Vols (might still be). He could do a lot better than Ole Miss and UK.

Coaches will be visiting with Combs next week. Strong, Combs, and Sandland all go to the same JUCO.

Marquel is the backup plan if TJ falls through IMO.

That's what I was thinking. No need for another JuCo if we get Johnson to go with Bradley. Let's go get a high school kid like a Mobley or Bryant to come in with Carr in this class and O'Brien, Taylor, and Phillips in the last class.

Depth at DL. It's so refreshing.

I thought he decommitted cuz he was unlikely to meet the math requirement in sec

That's what Hubbs said, he said that Combs wants to be a EE & get out of JUCO but that he won't have the SEC math requirement by then so that's why he decommitted. He said that if he was to wait & enroll in the summer then he thinks Ole Miss would be the favorite to land Combs.
