Arky I can understand since they are at least winning, but why Ole Miss?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Ole Miss pull a decent amount of talent out of the Memphis area? He is originality from Memphis, so that could possibly play a role in his interest in Ole Miss.

New article on 247...

Combs said he was "ecstatic & very excited" when he found out he had a Tennessee offer. A few of his family members are Tennessee fans. He didn't start playing football until 3 years ago. He has only visited Knoxville once, it was on a school trip for one day back when he was in HS.

USC has been talking to him & are close to offering. He said he would like to be closer to home but he wants to go to the best place for him.

I cannot even imagine how someone only plays 3 years, 1 of which was in high school, and is already good enough for the SEC. That is pretty impressive! I would venture this guy hasn't gotten anywhere close to his ceiling yet. Theoretically, he could be banking NFL money with only 5 years of football under his belt. Assuming he shows out during the rest of his college days of course.

Ole Miss is the closest SEC school to Memphis, so yeah they pull a lot of recruits from Memphis. Also, Freeze is evidently pretty well liked in Memphis, so he will probably make things a little tougher as well. Not to mention that Memphis is now in the BE, so I wouldn't be surprised if their local football recruiting starts to pick up some steam as a result of the BCS conference affiliation.

Luckily, we still have an open window in Memphis for the time being. BCS conference or not, everyone wants to play in the greatest college football league in the history of the sport, the SEC! On top of that, Memphis' on field performances recently have been so embarrassing that most of the current local kids are probably afraid to be associated with that. I don't think the conference switch will really harm UT's recruiting in the area until Memphis starts to do something halfway significant in football. Could be wrong, but if it were me, I would want to play on the biggest stage that would let me. Improve my odds of getting noticed by the NFL and preparing myself to compete at the pro level eventually (whether the scouts noticed me or not). You gotta take your shot whether someone hands it to you or you have to rip it out of their cold dead hand, right?!

Go VOLS!

There is no doubt that this young man has a lot of untapped potential due to the short amount of time he has actually played organized football.. Have a really good feeling about this guy.. Also think there is a real possibility that we only take 2 DT in this class with the number crunch and dont think both would be JUCO.. could be wrong.. Thoughts?

Yea atp we would take both JUCO DT's IMO but with the #'s crunch and need a lb and ol it will be a very interesting situation to watch play out until NSD '13

Both are takes.

I love how we "classify" kids these days. This guy is a 'take'. That guy has a 'commitable' offer. This kid is going to be recruited over. I guess the pressure on coaches to win a title every year has trickled (or flooded) into recruiting and how we look at kids.

"Tennessee has a great tradition and all that. The stadium is big and it seats 100,000 people and it's a good place to get your education," Combs said.

With all the attention, Combs is starting to think about visits. He may try and take a few visits this summer when he returns home for a couple of weeks, as well as wait until the fall. He said that as of right now, Tennessee will be one of his official visits either in the summer or fall.

"I think I would be able to come home for like two weeks and make my visits," he said. "I might take one or two official visits in the summer and the rest of them in the fall."

Combs is on track to get out of junior college in December and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

I like DTs that like playing mean and nasty. He's my type of DT. Has a lot of potential too. He gets a little high at times(Palermo can handle that). I love his style of play though and looks relentless on tape. I really hope we pull this guy.

Yea he has a nice size speed combo and he could be a sure fit for 3rd downs with his versatility and athleticism
