Bell said his heart said UT, but his head said OSU. Said it was a "business decision."

This is a microcosm of what is wrong with UT right now. Most of the top recruits don't care that we were good 15 years ago. When they look at UT, they don't see 6 national championships and 13 SEC championships.

They see a team that hasn't beaten Florida in 9 years, hasn't beaten Alabama in 7 years, and hasn't won a championship of any kind in 15 years. They see UT as Kentucky with a big stadium. They don't think UT will ever get back to the top.

That is the perception that Butch Jones will be given the task of changing.

Sadly I agree

Bell appears to be the most hated man in Knoxville today... I just find it hard to understand that EVERYTHING had pointed to his commitment to us until he picked up the OSU hat. It appears as if he definitely played both sides here and OSU somehow won out. It sucks but hopefully we won't need him and will still be able to improve our defense without him.

If Jones gets the Berry twins and Kelly next year, that more than makes up for Bell.

Unfortunately, Dooley was so inept that Jones will have a lot of work to do even with them. At least Jones will have a full year to make up ground this time instead of 2 months.

I have stated this in several threads- Ole Miss had a winning season and has circumstances on their side. Treadwell and Nkemdiche have connections to the school. 10 of their 27 are from Mississippi, and Dodson and Wilkins are from Memphis. The rest are 3 stars except for Tunsil, Golson, and the WR from Texas. These are circumstances that help them.

We have those same circumstances next year with a half a dozen legacies and probably 6-8 four star players in our very own state. We have next year what OM has this year. If this staff can go to a bowl and close the deal, people will be talking about us, and I hope people aren't saying we are throwing out money.

My mom grew up in the same town where Bell goes to school. One of her best friends there was a huge Bama fan growing up, and became a highly recruited O-lineman. He had an offer from Bama and everyone thought that was where he would sign. He also had an offer from UT.

He signed with UT. Johnny Majors beat out Bear Bryant to sign a lifelong Bama fan to be a Vol. It's all because of how Majors impressed him during his recruitment.

So just because Bell didn't sign with UT doesn't mean he was lying when he says he grew up a UT fan.

If it was a 'business decision' then why not go to bama? I'd hate that worse because we'd be playing him, but I don't buy just a business decision. Not when he could have went anywhere in the SEC.
