'13 GA RB Peyton Barber

IMHO there is a great opportunity for an elite RB to come to Tennessee and make a name for himself. The offensive line is going to be awesome, the RB coach is one of the best in college football, you are getting to play in the best league in the country, and playing time is available right now. When CBJ starts winning, THEY WILL COME!!!

Problem is you may need one to come, to start winning.

With Ole Miss taking all the RB's in this class you would think he would want to come here with Lawson and friends... This isn't making sense someone who knows something about why he would choose Ole Miss over our beloved Rocky Top (girls dont count! =p)

With Jordan Wilkins possibly ready to commit to Ole Miss and give them (5) RBs in this class I checked out their list. 1 of them may be being recruited as a DB. He is 5'9 175. Could be a DB I guess. Not sure people realize it but I think flipping Barber will be VERY hard. Has anyone noticed how long he has been an Ole Miss commit? Almost 18 months. Lots of visits there as well. Not sure how recruiting all those RBs over top him can't come into play for him. Who knows.

Maybe so, but the staff has to make the effort and I expect that they will.

Getting Barber would be HUGE!!! Really like his highlight film. I am disappointed that we didn't haul in Green because he would have been an impact player, but this kid, IMO, is just as special.

Benjamin Franklins in a brown bag helps to put him at ease, IMO.

Whatever they are doing it's working. Their visitors for just this weekend contained (4) 5 stars and (2) 4 stars. 16 visitors in total. Maybe it's shady recruiting. Something tells me if it's church renovations, it's all good.

lol

I'm pretty sure it's the "brown bag special"

I got that term from a college coach in Alabama that I know personally. He said it happens all the time. At the time our convo was about Auburn. I think this is the case at Ole Miss as well.

Thought Jay was boss man when it came to recruiting, especially the good RBs. Sure don't see them lining up to come play here.

I like Jay as a coach for Tennessee but I'm starting to wonder about his recruiting also. Our staff is new but Jay is not. I understand he got Lattimore to USC but that was a case of an instate kid staying home.

I'm pulling for Jay but I just don't understand why we can't get the big fish at RB. I'm sure someone will eventually take the scholarship.

My concern is not just the big fish, but we can't seem to even get a bluegill this year. We have offered like 35 RBs this year. ALL 35 could end up going elsewhere. When has that ever happened here at Tennessee?

2 5-7 seasons. You act like that doesn't come with consequences. Isn't it possible that we wouldn't even get visits from top RB's without CJG?

At least one back though? It isn't against the rules for a bad team to sign a RB or two

I'm not acting like anything. My point was the ability of Jay as a great recruiter. He's been mentioned as a great recruiter and I just said that the proof is in the pudding. Trust me, I hope he get's us a really big fish on Feb 6.

I promise we can get multiple RBs, the quality is the only thing in question. It's fair to be skeptical, but passing judgment on CJG right now isn't warranted.

While I understand sometimes the staff makes offers and then does not allow a recruit to commit, we show having offered RBs who are now committed to Purdue, East Carolina, NC State, (2) to UNC, and (3) to Ole Miss.

Maybe your not referring to me, but I haven't passed judgment. We didn't have to get a top back, but there are guys that we should have.went after early that would have helped. We needed more than one back in this class, and one now is looking shaky. I think its fair to raise question though.

Not referring to you, just the OP who implied CJG wasn't a good recruiter.
