'13 GA RB Chaz Thornton

Stephens Co lost in the second round of the playoffs tonite Chaz finished his junior season with 2190 yards rushing.

Chaz Thornton 2011 Highlight...21876 Rushing Yards

Chaz Thornton 2011 Season Highlights - YouTube

I think you meant 2,187 rushing yards.

But the run at the 32 second mark and the 2:08 mark are ridiculous.

I actually like his highlight film more so than I like Keyante Green's highlight film. I know that Green played defense primarily this last year, but Thornton really looked like the more successful RB.

I know Green plays small 1A GA football. What kind of competition does Thornton play against? What is the comparison between the two?

i know the staff acted like we would only take 1 rb next year. with all the running back talent in GA next year i hope they take 2... heck, i wouldn't be mad if they decided to take 3.

Chaz plays in 8AAA moving to 8AAAA next season, the competitions pretty strong.

The scuttlebutt was that they were trying to get 4 RBs in 2012. That doesn't look like it's gonna happen. Might be hard-pressed to get three. So with Coach Graham in tow we're probably looking at getting a couple of backs in 2013.

I really want the UT staff to offer Chaz Thornton. I agree with other posters. He really looks like he could develop into a special runner.

To offer Chaz Thornton out of GA. Took a look at his film (along with fellow GA RB Keyante Green, who it has been said has been promised to be the ONLY RB taken in the class) and Chaz, against much stiffer competition, has demonstrated an instinctual ability to run the football. If not for his small build (5'8", 185) Thornton would (should) be a 5* player (flame away on that comment). An "extra gear", never give up on the run mentality, great cuts, a true All Vol (from Tauren Poole's old school, attended last O&W game, and, without an offer from TN, light recruitment, no camp invite, and all of this given by current frontrunner Georgia Tech, he STILL has Tennessee second in line.) along with a work ethic that is required to turn the good prospect into an every down back gives Chaz every quality that, to me, is needed to deserve a scholarship from UT. As far as me offering a personal opinion between the two RBs (Green and Thornton) Green, a good prospect who is highly touted on this board, looks like a prospect that will take until his Junior year to really develop, or maybe even completely bust. While his highlight video is impressive, and he has the size that we at UT would love, the "extra gear" that every great back has is not present (yet) in Green. It does not help that Green, a more bruiser type back, shows him barreling over defenders in a 1A league. I have serious doubts of his ability to break just one tackle at the SEC level at this point, because of said lack of competition. Thornton shows, multiple times, breakaway speed and bruiser ability against 4A schools. He will be a star within 2 years.

While my opinion is not obviously held at the esteem of a college level coach, I hope you take the time to look for yourselves the differences, and maybe send copies of his final 2011 video to different Knoxville media members (as much as I dislike the media, giving them the video will give him some visibility in the Knoxville area, creating a little pressure.) and most importantly to Coach Dooley and Graham.

Thank you for your time and patience, flame away :peace2:

Not at all. I just get passionate about what I believe at 230 in the morning. I also would hate to see Tennessee miss out on a great back. Showed my dad the film when I was browsing the forum (he's the definition of negavol) and his jaw dropped. We are usually pretty spot on with evaluations. Take that as it is.
