'13 GA QB Josh Dobbs (UT signee)

Is there a specific dual threat speed? JW

It is what you think it is. If you're 5.0 then you're not a DT. My opinion is you need to be 4.5 or better and solid enough to take lots of hits to be a true DT

Edit tried to type 4.6 but my phone is pickier.

4.5 or better would truly eliminate about 80% of just skill position players.

Those40 times are overrated. He can find the endzone with his arm and legs.. That's all that matters. The kids not afraid to take off if there's daylight.

I didn't think Dobbs looked too fast in his highlights either, but then I found his game film vs Milton and thought he looked very agile and quick in it. He had some great scrambles and showed good pocket awareness too. At one point felt the pressure and shrugged off a pass rush from Carl Lawson.

Alpharetta vs Milton

hearing Butch Jones say he has never heard of a situation where a team only returns 2 scholarship QBs, is effectively a big "shut the ***** up" to any and everyone who questioned taking a 2nd QB in this class.

The bigger question again, is what on earth was the previous staff's thought process....

One qb last yr, one QB this yr + 0 OL last yr...

There is Nothing anyone can say to me that can convince me Dooley had a plan or knew what he was doing

He reminds me of Brent Schaeffer in a lot of ways. Hopefully we can take better advantage of this guy.

Like some people have said above 40 times are not the end all be all of peoples speed. It's a shame that some people still think with that prehistoric mentality. Holding someone to a fault because their 40 is "4.6" instead of "4.5" is not only asinine it just plain wrong. It is likely the people saying this who have never ran track, football or had any seriously timed run.

Some fast people just can't run 40's. Every heard of that one guy from Florida, oh what was his name...PERCY HARVIN? And plenty of people who run 4.3's in spandex can't do it in pads. In football agility and cutback ability are much more important than raw straight line speed. Colin Kaep isn't the fastest 40 runner, but he looks like a damn gazzelle on the field with a bunch of pro level players. Chris Johnson is the fastest player in the NFL, and can often burn an entire secondary, but it harder for him to beat people to edge faster because he usually can't get past the line of scrimmage.

The point we learn from all this is to stop internet evaluating people's speed. If people like Cam Newton, Colin Kaep, and arguably Vince Young listened to the people on this forum they wouldn't have made it to the NFL. I mean hell even Andrew Luck ran like a 4.6-4.7

Exactly. Everyone and their mom's 3rd cousin knew Tyler was pro-bound with a good statistical season and just imagine if Juwuan had declared.

No paddle meet **** Creek.

While I didn't watch all the vids it looks as if he stares down which receiver he's going to throw to from snap to throw....

But again i didn't watch all of vids...

I'm with you, Jay. I was drinking the Doolaid as much as anyone for a long time but the stuff you mentioned, plus ignoring guys like Vonn Bell, Jalen Hurd, Herron, Levenberry, Ryan Jenkins, Jalen Ramsey, on and on and on the list goes. Just unbelievable. WTF was this guy doing??

Folks can ***** and complain all they want about how NSD went yesterday, and yes we missed on some big targets, but most of that is on Dooley. Blaming Butch for not landing kids who prior to his arrival 2 months ago had little positive to say about UT in the recruiting process...is RIDICULOUS!

Two HUGE factors make me think Butch is going to turn this around and quickly...

1. He seems to get what Dooley didn't, open your door to alum and use them to build relationships, make the state of TN a priority and never sleep, always be recruiting. And this 2014 class is full of legacies and good TN HS players.

2. He's a proven winner. I don't give a damn what conference he was in, his system is proven to work. 4 championships in 6 years as a HC is far greater than most coaches do in their first 6 years.

Let's go Butch, RISE TO THE TOP :salute:

I don't think Tee was a dual threat was he? I don't remember him running that much.

Tee ran a 4.5 (at his slowest) 40 yard dash and when he ran, picked up huge yards. He was a pass first QB, but had the speed to be a DT when he did take off.

Did anyone watch his interview last night on CSS? Man he seems like he's got it together.

Reminded me of an Andrew Luck interview...he sounds and talks just like him.

Very excited for his future at Tennessee.

He's going to do big things! Anyone see the pics up on UTSPORTS? Dude can not only change his number, but also skin tone. Lizard people rule!
Excited about the young men joining #Volnation!
