26 players commited. One had to go JUCO, one the NCAA disqualified after being on campus, 2 have been kicked off the team for off the field issues, 3 transferred out including 1 to AU and the other P Sims who never panned out. Two more have been injured each season on campus. Yes some very good players in class, but overall not a great class by any means.

Regarding instate UA only landed 4 of the top 10 players instate. AU got 5 and UF got one. We landed a total of 8 players out of the top 40 in the state. By ranking AU had a far better year instate than UA.

Thats what i figured. Tw i like you about as much as a vol fan can like a dirty tater digger bama fan. You always have good info and are very respectful, but one thing you cant do right now is complain about yalls recruiting classes right now. We all know yall are tearing it up right now and we all know your hc is maybe the best recruiter/talent evaluator in the country. Not much to complain about.

My response was to not complain about the class, because we will have several starters in it as well as future NFL draft picks. I was responding to the question that someone on here stated that if UT wins it will correlate into a great class. I said no because when we won the NC in 2010 that was our worse class. Yes at the time it may be a class UT would be excited about, even though it did not turn out well later, but the point winning does not give you an edge in recruiting.

Top recruits look at long term stability. They want to know the staff will be there their whole career and they want to know the team will competing for championships. Winning 9 games does not do that. UT will have to repeat that another 2 years to get back where they once were.

And how do you know what top recruits look for? That is a pretty broad brush stroke.

And my point is that you cant correlate bamas situation with ours. When was the last time yall didnt have a top ten class? Its kinda condescending to use your anecdote when your top 5 nationally ranked "worst class" came after your national championship. It comes across as whiny when you feed that crap to fans whose team has barely sniffed at the ass end of a winning season in 5 years before getting kicked in the face. Just saying.

I think if the vols win 9 or 10 games with the instate players in the 2014 class they could have a really good class and lock up Tenn. That may not meen anything to Bama Fans but the 2014 instate class for tenn is top notch. CAN'T WAIT!

TW, you missed the point in your summation although you stated it well in the body of your post.

Tennessee recruiting will strongly benefit from a 9-10+ season because it would remove all the chatter that is now centered around Dooley being on the hot seat, a topic that is very much the subject of negative recruiting against us. Even without the "negative recruiting" it is a subject that the recruits realize on their own.

As you correctly note in your post, the stability of the coaching staff is paramount in the minds of recruits, and that has worked against us for a couple of years now -- and it has been especially true this year with all the media chatter about how Dooley is on the top of the list of coaches on the hot seat. There is no question that the lack of job security of Dooley and by extension the rest of the staff has hurt our recruiting for this class so far.

It is for that reason that a good season will very much help our recruiting, including the 2013 class if it develops in the early part of the schedule. If we beat N C State and Florida to start the season and especially if we add UGA to the list, our recruiting will benefit greatly.

I agree for the most part but winning 9 or 10 games will not land UT a top 5 class for 2013. It will help pull in a few that were wait and see recruits, but now in 2013 UT repeats that is a different story. Every recruit will know the staff will be around and UT will be competing.

Basically in short UT has to have more than one winning season to get back the recruiting they were use to.

I know the TN 14 class is loaded, but that also does not always equal success. SC for the last 3 years has been loaded instate and most have gone to USC. But it has not translated in them landed top OOS recruits yet. And that with going to the SECCG 2 years ago and if Latt did not get hurt they may have went again last year.

Now most people and maybe recruits as well know winning the East is not that difficult at them moment just like winning the west 5 years ago was not the same. But even so USC is still struggling to get the top kids OOS looking their way. Even the NC kids are going elsewhere which use to be a pipeline for USC, especially the Charlotte area. Lemay and Humphries never looked their way and this is when USC won the East.

I also think most of those 14 instate for TN are going to UT without a great season as long as the staff is still there. UT has to get the big OOS recruits looking their way to compete for the SEC and beyond again. Why UA looks at so many OOS because just recruiting instate will not do it.

This is the reason they brought in Sal and Pittman, along with all the other replacements. We win, and these dudes will BEAST on the recruiting trail.

Bama then and UT now r two diff situations.. Our biggest hurdle with recruiting is showing recruits tht DD and co. can win football games in the SEC, and that there is stability in the program.. Kids at that time, already knew Saban could win ball games bc he was proven in the league.. Recruiting will take off once he proves doubters and rival coaches using negative recruiting tactics against him, wrong..

That is the number concern I feel for UT and recruits. Yes winning may be important but I think most recruits understand once they visit and meet with CDD what he was left with and he has had to bascially rebuild UT from very little.

Apparently Dabo and staff are all on vacation so the Clemson fans aren't happy about that but they feel pretty good about their chances.
