'13 GA DE Davin Bellamy (UGA signee)

You know how many stupid pics would be floating around cyberspace from our college days if Twitter had been around? I shudder to think...

18 year old = stupid. We all were.

I know, but he has to know better if he doesn't want scrutiny. I did my share of dumb things at that age but I never had the opportunity at stake that these kids do. How many kids (recruits) have done something similar since the dawn of social media? I can't remember too many instances of something this dumb. I believe there was a pic of a kid from last year holding several hundred dollars, that's about all I can recall. Kids know they are in the spotlight. They know they have stalkers hanging on every post.

FYI- I never have said I didn't want him. I am just saying it was a dumb decision.

Good points. Kids unfortunately think they are the biggest thing going and the rules no longer apply to them. It's a shame

He seems like a pretty big risk. He is def enjoying his time on all his visits and loves every place he has gone. I think UGA is his pick and I think I am ok with that. Not many of these guys that have wanted all the attention seem to live up to the hype. He is talking about not making his decision until after NSD now and that just adds to him wanting the spotlight... Give me a recruit that wants to get in and get things done over him anyday. I don't mind the waiting til NSD but this guy is all over the place.

It wasn't a great decision to post the picture and some of his tweets have been a bit much but I still think UT needs Bellamy desperately. We are recruiting football players not youth group leaders and the "red flags" with Bellamy are minimal compared to some other players we have taken chances with in the past. In fact, these "red flags" are probably present with most players. He just seems like a typical 18 year old kid to me who is enjoying being recruited. With missing on Lawson, we need Bellamy to line-up opposite of Carr and, hopefully, Miller (with the understanding that either or both may end up at DT). Bellamy seems like a legit 4-3 DE and we need someone that can get some pressure since we haven't had that in years. Other than Bell, this is the biggest need out of players who have yet to publicly commit one way or the other.

Please be a Vol... The reactions of the do-gooders will be epic.

I hope the kid does pick Tennessee. I said it in several posts that just because the bong was on the table does not mean he did anything wrong other than poor judgement in posting the pic. If he does have issues with things that are not allowed, it will come out at some point and the coaches will deal with it.

That does not change my opinion of people who use illegal drugs, should be locked up.

Happens because these kids see NOTHING as being bigger than themselves. They don't look for a program to buy into and dedicate themselves to; they expect everyone to buy into them. And that's part of the problem with all this NSD hoopla. We feed egos to the nth degree in hopes that talented, incredibly selfish 18 yr olds sign with us. I really believe that in their minds, it's more like X University signs with them.
Great post. Its not just the atheletes in this generation that are selfish. Most kids 21 and under think that they are special and the world owes them a living. They dont believe they should start on the bottom and wk their way up.Most of them think they should start on top and get miffed when reality hits them.Just like the great freshman who gets tkod in his first varsity practice.

If it was crack cocaine in the pic, I'd agree with you.

The kid made a mistake tweeting out the pic. Don't kid yourself that because he was there he is anymore of a risk to take than any other recruit. All have been exposed to such behavior

This.

If you're 18 years old and a pretty girl pulls you in her dorm room you really gonna be like, "Nah, you got a bong in there," really? So I think it's perfectly fine that he was there.

As far as the picture, he probably just didn't see that the bong was in the picture when he looked at it on his phone.

Alternative: Maybe he's so squeaky clean that he doesn't know what a bong is. :eek:lol:

Not saying he is a problem child yet. But he needs to have a team attitude and not a look at me attitude to be successful on this team. I hope he does pick us and matures with us. I want the best for this young man. :good!:

So, are you saying he has a "look at me attitude?" If you follow recruiting regularly, you realize that many top players in the country like the attention. So what? Some go about it differently than others. Bellamy has done nothing, IMO, that should raise any serious concerns. Just because they like the attention does not make them bad kids.

All of this over a photo with a bong on the table. I'll admit, it's sketchy, and I also ask why he's wearing sunglasses? Nevertheless, when was the last time any of you were in a college dorm room, honestly? Afterall, this is Oregon we're discussing, too.

An illegal drug is an illegal drug to me. If your not supposed to have it, you risk going to jail/prison if you do. It's just the way it is. I don't have to worry about it as I don't do it. See how that works? :hi:

Actually the amount of it that you have with you is where things get illegal. If you have a personal amount on you the worst they can do is confiscate it. Only when you have a large enough amount for it to be considered intent to sell that you can get arrested.

Also cops can do nothing about weed in your system, that is up to your employer whom usually looks the other way

I'm just very wary of any kind of clashing in the locker room to disrupt the team we are trying to build is all.

So you CAN'T be arrested for a small amount of weed? Really?

DUI can get you thrown in jail if your operating a motor vehicle and are obviously high. It may be in your system, but can still land you in jail.

If your employer looks the other way for drug use, I would suspect they just need you back in the drive thru taking orders. Cars are backing up.

I preface this post by stating that I do not use marijuana. However, I know many people that do and think it's their own prerogative to do so.

...Does anyone else get the impression that LebanonVolunteer's sole interaction with marijuana is from watching "Reefer Madness?"

A rose by any other name is still a rose. Weed by any other name is still illegal. ILLEGAL.

It doesn't matter what, who or where someone uses it. It states in the laws of this land that owning, growing, possessing, smoking, using or selling weed is illegal. Doesn't matter if you have one ounce or 100 pounds of the stuff. It is still illegal.

Now as much as the Frito makers and Krystals want weed to be legal, as long as the law of our land says it is illegal then you can and will get arrested for possessing it, smoking it, selling it or growing it.

Argue all you want about whether it is right or wrong, you cannot argue the fact that weed is an illegal substance. To do so makes you ignorant of the law. Guess what, ignorance of the law is not an excuse and your butt will still go to jail for possessing it, smoking it or selling it. If you do not think so, then go to the county jail or the county penal farms and see how many of them are in there for possessing it, smoking it or selling it.

Now, knowing 18 year old kids, I have raised three of them, all of them know what weed looks like or smells like. All 18 year old kids know it is illegal, hell that is why they try to hide it from people. Bellamy saying he didn't know the bong was there before the picture was taken is probably a true statement.

Do we take him or not? Not our call. He is going to announce and it is probably going to be for Georgia so this discussion is really a moot point in my opinion. But to get it straight, weed is illegal.

Not sure how my opinion of an illegal substance and my views of it speak to anything other than me being someone who tries to do the right thing and stay out of trouble and or avoid problems.

I don't look for problems. I don't take the risk of using drugs and then when it all goes bad scream how did this happen. If you can end up in court, jail, prison, or on an offender list, I just choose to not put myself in a position to be involved. It may be square, closed minded, or speak to being a nerd. It's the law, I choose to follow it and avoid the problems/drama. I like to think my parents did a good job and IMO, plays a very big part in things like this. :hi:

. . . But to get it straight, weed is illegal.

Currently, there are two states (Colorado and Washington) where pot has been decriminalized and eighteen states that have legalized medical marijuana. It is quite likely that another 5 or 6 states will legalize in the next two years. Legalize it and regulate it like alcohol.

That being said, I hope Bellamy shock the world and picks UT!

Oregon is one of those places which treats marijuana like a minor traffic violation.

"... in Oregon possessing up to an ounce is a violation, not a criminal offense."

According to Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson, "People cannot be arrested or jailed for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana." That "has been a low law enforcement priority for 35 years in Portland and this will not change."
