'13 GA DE Davin Bellamy (UGA signee)

Dawgs lead as Bellamy drops Noles.

Just a few days ago, ESPN 300 defensive end Davin Bellamy (Chamblee, Ga./Chamblee) had a good idea of where he might want to go. Tuesday night, things had changed for the 6-foot-4, 235-pound pass-rusher.

“After this meeting today, I have no idea where I am signing to,” Bellamy said following an in-home visit with Tennessee. “It may come to a point where I might wait until after signing day, to be honest with you. It is so close. I am just going to relax and see where my heart takes me.”

Late Tuesday, Bellamy announced his decision to decommit from Florida State, where he had been committed since last August.

“I felt like I did not need any more on my plate, because I already have a tough decision,” Bellamy said. “I think we mutually parted ways some time ago, because I could not build that same relationship like I had with Dameyune Craig. It just got to a point where I did not want Florida State to not be able to go out and find another defensive end.”

Earlier Tuesday came a new offer -- from Oregon. Bellamy now will head to the West Coast for one final official visit with an open mind.

“I am looking forward to seeing something new with Oregon,” Bellamy said. “They said the only position they do not have is outside linebacker and that I could come right in and compete. I have been to every school on the East coast. Everyone tells me I might go there and just fall in love with it. Schools are very similar in the Southeast, so I am excited about seeing a school with a new perspective.”

While his decision seems a little more difficult to make, Bellamy still maintains a sole leader for his signature.

“Nothing has changed, and Georgia is still in the lead,” Bellamy said. “The only thing holding me back from going to Georgia is trust. The more we converse, the more trust we build. There are rumors that Todd Grantham is going to leave after signing day, and if that happened, that would be devastating.”

That possibility has led to Bellamy and the Bulldogs’ coaching staff agreeing on somewhat of a verbal pact, which includes a special code word of sorts.

“We have this little slogan we use for the trust we are building,” Bellamy said. “It is 'longevity 17,' and that is basically me saying if Grantham is there and I can wear my No. 17 next year, then there is a strong chance I will be a Dawg. Now Coach Grantham says it every time we talk.”

Monday night, Bellamy went out to eat with the Georgia coaches, and each side spent time discussing their personal lives.

“Coach Grantham, Coach Mark Richt and Coach Bryan McClendon and my mom and I really had some bonding time Monday,” Bellamy said. “My mom opened up to Coach Richt about family, Christian values, and about losing her parents, and Coach Mark Richt opened up to her, as well.”

The Volunteers are chasing Georgia for Bellamy, and they made a push for the four-star prospect Tuesday night.

“Tennessee is right there, though, and they had their in-home tonight,” Bellamy said. “It was their last hurrah at trying to get me, and it went well. Coach (Tommy) Thigpen, Coach (Steve) Stripling and Coach (John) Jancek were telling me I had a better opportunity to get on the field at Tennessee than at Georgia. They said Georgia has a lot of players, though, so I do not want to be stuck behind anybody for four years. Tennessee said I could come fresh with a new program and lead their team over the top.”

Bellamy can see himself having success at either Southeastern Conference program.

“The way I see it, I could go to Tennessee and be that guy on their defense,” Bellamy said. “Or I could go to Georgia and thrive in that pass-rushing system.”

heres things that stand out to me

Nothing against Bellamy but have you seen ugas linebackers all 4 and 5 stars

we are taking most inside guys and don't have much other than leonard Floyd at olb and McGee. we have a bunch of guys like tj stripling who can't stay heathly. there is a lot of playing time if bellamy can put some weight on and compete right away. we have a big need at olb on the opposite side of Jordan Jenkins.

Sounds like a guy who wants to go to UGA, but got treated like dirt and doesn’t trust them anymore. I could imagine myself in that kid’s shoes if UT did that to me. I’d still give them a third chance, though. That’s what you do with your dream school.

Hopefully his head overrides his heart. Sounds like he knows what he needs to do, but just can’t pull the trigger.

Sad to say, but we're going to be a bridesmaid with this kid. It is pretty clear that he wants to be a pup. Not sure why as they never win anything.

Davin
Bellamy officially decommitted from FSU which is no shock. The surprise
is that he is going to visit Oregon and will decide signing day between
the Vols, UGA and Oregon. I don't think Oregon will be much of a factor
at all. I think it's the Vols or the Bulldogs. Tennessee seems to have
weathered the UGA official visit and in home visit and is getting their
final pitch to him. I think surviving the last four days of UGA
onslaught is a win for the Vols. But can Tennessee beat out the home
state school a week from today.

Interesting that he said he might wait until after signing day to decide. Looks like he would consider waiting to see if Grantham leaves or not. If he goes to the NFL, sounds like he'd sign with the Vols.

Richt is recruiting his mom acording to the AJC article. If his mom plays a big part in where he goes, it might not be good for us.

If the past few years have taught me anything in recruiting, we usually lose these battles. Ticks me off. But, in this one, I think Bellamy unfortunately buys into the BS that Richt and Grantham will sell him (playing the Jarvis Jones role). Plus, I think the chances that Grantham leaves are high, and he just won't accept that.

Would be nice to see him come on board. Not expecting it. Understand it is possible. Would be glad to have him.
