Name me another Sec school who can claim Top offensives player in the NFL of alltime- Peyton manning (argubaly when all is said and done) Jason Witten ( argubaly of alltime if he keeps current production for a few more years). Top defensive player of alltime- Reggie White. I would have to bet no one in the SEC could boast what UT can about what former players have accomplished in the NFL PERIOD! Can anyone explain Why! Its really fantastic IF you think about it and YOUR a Tennessee fan.
So what are you saying, just playing in Neyland magically boosts their God-given abilities? I think personal drive, talent, and coaching are the leading factors in their success in College and the Pros. The brand of their uniform, size of the stadium, and color of the grass all play back seat.
If you want to talk about tradition, 4 SEC schools have brought home the Crystal Ball since we have, and we have never won a Heisman. Besides, in today's sports, its all about what have we done lately.
Our best pitch to these young men is that our coaching staff will be there for them, to help them develop emotionally, mentally, and physically, and that they will be better at it than the other schools' coaching staff.
I'm not trying to be a negative nancy or make any prediction about where Lawson ends up. I like our chances but this last OV is going to be hard to overcome.
I just think its funny when people act like TN offers some unique opportunity to be an elite NFL prospect when compared to other SEC schools. Yes TN has great tradition and brand new state of the art facilities but so does over half of the conference. If the kid is good an works hard he will get noticed pretty much anywhere.
How many of those players did Butch or his staff coach?
You quoted me so I must assume what I hi-lighted is aimed at me. You need to read my post again because you evidently misunderstood. My point was that of the two main schools he is considering UT has the better coach at his position and by all accounts, they hit it off pretty well during his visit. Lawson is not your average high school recruit so I believe the things I've mentioned bode well for us....
One other thing, I am not your average VOL fan who thinks that what UT offers carries anymore weight than anyone else with most of todays young recruits.. In this day and age of 'what have you done for me lately' and 'instant gratification' UT, unfortunately, is lagging way behind...
Fortunately for us, Lawson does not seem to be like most recruits these days.
Will we sign him? I don't know. I just like our chances at this point..
