'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

I think Lawson will end up visiting Auburn, and if he does then it is 50/50 between us, with Clemson a darkhorse. If he doesn't go to Auburn, then remember that he has visited a ton, but not with the current staff, so small advantage UT... 75/25 chance he is a Vol.

I think the best thing to our advantage is that his visit went so well, and he has a two week gap to let that marinate before going to Auburn. Also his trip to Auburn ends two days before NSD... which could be seen as a good or bad thing.

One of the biggest factors usually in a recruit's statement after his commitment always seems to be about relationships. With Lawson and Garner being on very rocky ground from the get go, after Auburn hired Garner, I just don't think that relationship will be trustworthy enough for Lawson to go to AU...JMHO. It is very good to hear how well Lawson and Stripling hit it off; however, Lawson and Marion Hobby from Clemson also have a very good relationship. I am a little worried about Clemson, as they always seem to pull rabbits out of the hat, especially with DL. Lawson has said he likes Clemson's staff the most; however, I believe he wants to play in the best conference in the country, which means AU/UT battle with TN winning out because of better relationships with our staff versus AU's staff. Still say watch out for Clemson, if they can convince him that the ACC is a (cough) good (cough) conference to play in.

be careful downplaying Garner. He's been doing this a long time and is very good at it

Yes, he is, but the Lawsons aren't stupid either, and I don't believe go for the hot sauce like many recruits do. I may be wrong, but they seem very grounded. We will find out in a very short amount of time.

Recruiters who have been doing it a long time know what buttons to push with most of these kids. Bellamy was whining on twitter that he was only a 3 star and within 24 hrs TG at UGA had built him up to think he was the #1 LB in the country. If a kid has a school that he has been wanting to go to(Lawson to AU as he has been committed for a long time), he is usually looking for a reason to go, not a reason to go somewhere else. See, Vonn Bell. Of course late offers can change things when the late offer is a school you always liked(seee Ford). The AU visit should have us very very concerned IMO.

You may be reading too much into that. I think Lawson committed to Auburn because of Auburn. Gene and his boys were fired and did not decommit. Garner was hired and has still not decommitted. Obviously he is torn right now but it is pretty clear he likes Auburn.

Little unsettling that Barber is headed down to the barn with Lawson this weekend... Feel like we are losing momentum with this kid even though all reports are that he is a mature young man. Hope I'm wrong here bc this is the kind of kid that can help turn a program around in a hurry. Hope Auburn craps the bed this weekend and Lawson can see through Garner's BS

How is it BS?

Garner was recruiting players that fit Grantham's scheme. He is now recruiting for a different scheme. Lawson should understand if he is a mature young man.

Barber came to Knoxville if I'm not mistaken.

We are in trouble if he makes that visit as many times as he has been there he is looking for a reason to stick with them.

I understand that the personnel needs for the 3-4 are different than the 4-3. That being said, Carl Lawson is the type of talent that could play in either base defense even if he does not have prototypical size for the 3-4 DE position or speed for the Jack position. Additionally, even 3-4 teams don't always line-up in the 3-4. All in all, given the talent level of Lawson, I would have thought UGA would find a way to get him to UGA and then on the field because he is a playmaker and, IF UGA did not offer or pursue Lawson at all, there has to be a reason for it and I think Lawson correlates (rightfully or wrongfully) the snub from UGA to Garner. From what I have read, I think Garner was instrumental in the decision not to pursue Lawson and, thus, I think the change in tenor with his move to Auburn is revealing and I hope and believe that Lawson will as well. I, of course, could be wrong since (1) I am not a UGA fan and (2) I don't have personal knowledge of the personnel and recruiting discussions of the UGA coaching staff. However, it seems that Lawson has made that correlation and that is all that matters.

Kid will be a vol. May have been a silent ever since his visit. He'll give aubbie a chance, but it will be too little too late. IMHO

hopefully Lawson doesnt enjoy AU as much and cant get UT off his mind and hypes it up to Barber

Just don't feel as confident as I did here. If they make the trip to AU, I don't think we land Lawson. He's looking for a reason to stick to his commitment IMO. That is why he is still committed to AU. I get that some claim he de-committed quietly. Just not buying that at all. Sitting back hoping AU messes this weekend up for the highest rated player they could land in this class is wishful thinking at best. If they make the trip, I think he's gone.
