'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

Per ETNVol in Patterson thread last year:
Notice in the above post I said "most of the time".

You want to do post searches, look up how most of you homers defended Derek Dooley. It's embarrassing in hindsight, especially now that you see what he did to the program and its relationship with HS coaches in TN.

Good Luck Mr. Lawson.
Tough decision.

For what its worth we at Volnation need you here in Knoxville. A commitment from you would start the ball in motion and I truly believe that a number of other strong players will rally around you and kickstart a huge transition in the history of UT Football. You could be a huge part of starting that momentum.

Hope you choose the Vols! No matter where you go I think you will have fans here in Knoxville.
You are a class act young man and we appreciate that in an athlete.
Good Luck, God Bless, and Go Vols!

I couldn't agree more. We really need him in Knoxville....as you said truly a class act.

Likewise, it's pretty obvious where most of the big fish we're after are going. Lawson is almost certainly going to Auburn. North is almost certainly going to UNC. Bell is almost certainly going to Alabama.

Who finds this "pretty obvious?"

I think it is obvious you will be wrong with one, two, or possibly all three of these predictions.

Would look AWESOME in orange.

I just don't see him being the type that will feel pressure to make a decision he isn't ready to make. If he is truly torn between all three then a week is a very short time to sort it all out.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if one of the schools plant the idea of waiting in his head. Especially if that school feels him slipping away.

I know waiting hasn't been his plan but it seems like a possibility at this point IMO.

Rivals has a story about the top 10 players and who they remind them of in the NFL.
What they say about lawson

They are doing two a day. Here is the first two.
No. 10 Jalen Ramsey, cornerback, Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy

THE RAMSEY FILE

Jalen Ramsey
Position: Defensive back
Height: 6-feet
Weight: 190
High school: Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy
Jalen Ramsey videos
Attributes: 6-foot, 190 pounds, 4.54 40.

Top schools: Committed to USC

NFL Comparison: Champ Bailey, Denver Broncos.

Tale of the Tape: This is pretty much an identical comparison because both are listed at 6-foot and in the 190-pound range. Their physical look on the field is nearly the same. Both are athletic and explosive with great ball skills.

When we last saw him: Ramsey was like a blanket for the majority of U.S. Army All-American Bowl week, earning the No. 2 place among the top performers for his team. He frustrated wide receivers with his quickness, speed and discipline, rarely letting them get more than a step away from him. It's hard to point out one play that summed up Ramsey's performance that week because he was so consistent and rarely targeted in practice. Unfortunately, his worst play came in the game, when he allowed a 16-yard touchdown catch to Derrick Griffin.

Analyst's take: "Ramsey is a dynamic playmaker who could have very well played offense in college but has chosen to focus on the defensive side of the ball. There is nothing to say that he won't have a package or two put in for him (on offense) or that he won't be involved in the special teams somehow. I think the most striking thing is that he already has the ball skills that Bailey developed at Georgia and his ability to go and get the ball is already there. It is an offensive mentality on defense. There is nothing -- in my opinion -- that indicates he won't develop into a lockdown-type cornerback on the next level and something special beyond that." -- Woody Wommack, Rivals.com Southeast analyst.

No. 9 Kendall Fuller, cornerback, Olney (Md.) Good Counsel

THE FULLER FILE

Kendall Fuller
Position: Defensive back
Height: 6-feet
Weight: 185
High school: Olney (Md.) Good Counsel
Kendall Fuller videos
Attributes: 6-foot, 185 pounds, 4.5 40

Top schools: Committed to Virginia Tech

NFL Comparison: Morris Claiborne, Dallas Cowboys

Tale of the Tape:Fuller is listed one inch taller but the same weight, so the two have similar attributes.

Fuller is a technician on the defensive side and explosive on the offensive side. Like Claiborne, his closing speed is sneaky. He always finds a way to be around the football, and his instincts are off the charts.

When we last saw him: Fuller had a bull's-eye on his back entering the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and it was easy to see he was one of the most targeted cornerbacks in practice and the game. One of the nation's top cornerbacks was largely successful throughout the week, showing great speed, technique, instincts and playmaking ability. His best play came in practice, and it might have been the best play of the week on either team. Tyler Boyd and Fuller were running step-for-step on a deep post route. Boyd went up to catch the ball, but Fuller snatched it away in midair with one hand.

Analyst's take: "(Fuller and Claiborne) have raw skills that you can see, but they have tremendous instincts and that is something that really stands out. Really, Kendall's instincts jump off the page. His versatility is impressive, as well, and he could be a part of the special teams game in punt return if needed. Morris became an interception machine at LSU, and I think Kendall shares his ball skills in that respect. Both Fuller and Claiborne are able to catch, and that sort of separates them from the myth that cornerbacks are playing defense because they can't go up and get it." -- Adam Friedman, Rivals.com Northeast analyst

I wish all recruits handled themselves like Carl does. I honestly hope he has massive success regardless of where he goes.

@Niebuhr247 RT @CarlCarltp: too many opinions coming from too many places. but at the same time I don't now what to do. wish there was a 3 sided coin

Good luck to this young man, I really hope UT wins out in the end, this is an important decision to say the least.

Just goes to show how much pressure the truly elite athletes are under. It has to be really tough on the kids that are thinking about their future and not just the spot of light of recruiting.

Good kid, I wish him well no matter where he goes.

"Ryan Jenkins factor could be a big one for UT and Lawson, we shall see. They are very tight and his flip from Clemson to Vols helps. I also think if they play things right with EJ Levenberry, he could be a flip. As for Boyd I think he sticks with Pitt, North is close but I have always heard UNC was defacto choice all things being equal. Bell will be interesting, very interesting."

Hmmm. I'm having a hard time reconvincing myself to accept that we won't get any five stars this class (which I told myself was fine - and it is, honestly).

But wow.

Lawson?

Bell?

Would be unreal.

Farrell is 5 days late with the Boyd news.

I feel for the young man. I'm glad he has a great Father to guide him through this process. That being said, I hope he does realize he will be able to get some incredible advice from "The Peyton Manning." Can you imagine a film session with one of the best of all time. Someone that has spent more time in the film room than most. He would be such a great asset and one who could help guide him through a lot of the smoke and mirrors that most of these coaches are throwing his way. We all know what he would be able to do here at Tennessee. He and Carr would disrupt any offense and if we got Vonn to go along with them this defense would be a force from the get go. No smoke screen here, Carl. We need you and the coaches at UT are "REAL" and they have a passion for Tennessee and getting us back on the right track. With you, Bell and Carr here the BIG ORANGE CRUSH would be back in full effect.

The bold sums it up. We have not had that in a while. Even if this is a stepping stone they won't step sideways. If the make a move it will be NFL. That is an understandable move. (I HOPE I AM CORRECT)
