'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

This is my opinion formed on things I have heard over the years. CRG is an excellent recruiter and always has been. Was outstanding when at UT as well.

However, and I think this is important to CL, he has not been considered a good DL coach. He is a recruiting monster. This is the reason he is on a college staff.

CL loved breaking down the film and being a master of his craft the same as Tiny. That is a comment he made. Gardner is not really going to help him with that.

He does not need to go to Auburn for this reason alone. He does not need RG as his d line coach to get the most out of him.

I honestly feel like if he was going to Auburn he would have already solidified his commitment back to auburn. He's been there more times than any other school so he knows Auburn and what they bring to him.

Him going there last has no relevance imo. Go vols

Everyone keeps posting about Bellamy, but I am looking forward to Carr and Lawson playing @ the DE spots for UT!

Lawson will flush the QB or RB and if he does not catch the ball carrier, Carr will crash down on them :)

(Not saying that we do not want Bellamy)

I agree, Carr and Lawson would be fun to watch. Carr is one of my favorites that we have committed. He has gone above and beyond helping out with recruiting.

Sounds like a week from now this one is finished. Hoping to see a lot of :dance2::clapping::pepper::rock2::boobies::td::toast::welcome3::run::baloon::fireworks:

North Carolina was looking like a potential dark horse contender for five-star defensive end Carl Lawson but it looks like the Tar Heels won't get their shot to pitch him after all. Lawson scrapped his trip to Chapel Hill due to weather concerns and it doesn't look like he'll be able to schedule trip before signing day.

With an upcoming weekend trip to Auburn, the school he's been committed to for months, things appear to be coming into focus for Lawson. Tennessee is making a strong push and Clemson is still in the mix, but if Lawson were really going to flip from Auburn, wouldn't he have said so publicly by now? Or is he just waiting until signing day to flip? I don't expect him to decide until Feb. 6, and he's keeping quiet. But look for Auburn to pull out all the stops in an effort to salvage the highest-ranked player of their once formidable defensive class. -- (W.W.)

Didn't his father say that he would either solidify his current commitment or flip sometime before NSD? Either the author is disregarding that or he's just talking out his ass.

Probably the former... It's HS recruiting, a good 75% of what these kids or their parents say is just smoke.

My vote is for the latter.

Wouldn't he already had flipped by now? Seriously? That is your reasoning? Bad write-up.

The way TN's luck runs the last 5 years, I doubt it...another big fish hope.

"Luck" and "chance" are not "things". They are just words we invented to describe causative events that we can't describe. UT has not been missing out on big recruits based on dice rolls or black magic mumbo jumbo. There have been reasons (both known and perhaps unknown to us fans) why we have missed out on recruits.

Lots of things have changed in the off-season-- including an almost entirely new staff of recruiters, new facilities completion, etc... These quantifiable changes have much more bearing on our recruiting success than luck, chance, voodoo or mumbo jumbo.

Pick your chin up and hope a little bit, my fellow Vol fan. Leave the five years behind us and hope for the best from the changes we've made. Live in the sun a little...

:good!:

While I will agree with that, the Lawson family has been tremendous so far. If there was anything I'd believe during this process, it's information coming from the family.

There's very few players of other rival teams that I cheer for, Latimore being one. Carl Lawson would be another. But fortunately, I don't have to worry about that because he's gonna being wearing the orange and white!

Although his dad said this wouldn't go until signing day and leave people hanging Carl is visiting Auburn this weekend so the earliest he would commit or reaffirm his commitment would likely be on Monday the 4th. If that happens it is before signing day but there really isn't much difference.

Don't mean it as a knock on the family or Carl just stating the obvious.

If you're a journalist, you don't print your own deductions, you print fact or rumors at least backed by sources. The fact is Lawson hasn't made an official decommittment and he's visiting Auburn two days before NSD. Printing that he could announce on NSD isn't exactly "Dewey Defeats Truman"

Trying to decipher journalistic ethics these days is a lost cause. See Teo's girlfriend and the partisan approaches of the political media for reference.

Not true at all. 2 days before NSD is huge for the schools who don't get him, if they have plan B waiting on the go ahead to sign a NLI. Now that we have the 25 limit, knowing even 6 hours before NSD gives you time to get your plan B a form to sign.
