How many rings does Brady have without Bruschi, Seau, Seymore, and Rodney Harrison on defense? How many more would he have of he still had guys playing at that level?
Not trying to be a Manning homer, but everybody acknowledges that defense wins championships and then uses super bowls to compare guys who don't even play that side of the ball.
Super bowl rings are a completely worthless measurement of any individual player, IMO. It's a team sport now more than ever.
Sorry for the rant.
We're definitely on the same side of the fence on this discussion, and that's why I said that one more ring for Peyton cements him as the greatest. He's already got the statistical achievements, and another championship would quiet the critics who balk about his lack of rings.
Believe me...jmoore's response was to me saying Peyton was the greatest already (which I still believe), and I know how Patriot fans are about their boy Tom.
Brady had an incredible defense backing him up when he won his titles, and that can't be denied. I'm not one to discount how well he played in those years though. I just choose to side with one of Knoxville's favorite sons because he's been spectacular.
Also...no news on Lawson. Sorry for the thread derailment.
I wouldn't say COMPLETELY worthless, but I agree that they aren't the most important thing about measuring individual players. Eric Berry would never win a Super Bowl at KC, but does that mean he isn't elite?
