Not trying to be a Manning homer, but everybody acknowledges that defense wins championships and then uses super bowls to compare guys who don't even play that side of the ball.

Super bowl rings are a completely worthless measurement of any individual player, IMO. It's a team sport now more than ever.

I wouldn't say COMPLETELY worthless, but I agree that they aren't the most important thing about measuring individual players. Eric Berry would never win a Super Bowl at KC, but does that mean he isn't elite?

Believe me...jmoore's response was to me saying Peyton was the greatest already (which I still believe), and I know how Patriot fans are about their boy Tom.

Brady had an incredible defense backing him up when he won his titles, and that can't be denied. I'm not one to discount how well he played in those years though. I just choose to side with one of Knoxville's favorite sons because he's been spectacular.

Yeah I just quoted you because you were the last post before I responded. I get what you're saying about the legacy because it needs to be generally accepted, but I refuse to even consider championships in my personal evaluation of players.

I'm not even making it about Peyton, seriously. "Defense wins championships" is the most apt axiom and most people accept it as true.

So why then do we compare offensive players based on how many championships their defense wins them?

Ben Roflburger and Eli are better examples than Brady, even. Neither is better than Drew Breed who only has one SB (which he won because his D finally had a good season).

It's a comparison that has perpetuated by the status quo for far too long as a result of repetition by lazy, overpaid "experts" who lack the creativity to perform meaningful statistical analysis.

P.s. when Carl Lawson, former Vol, leads his team to a 3rd or 4th Super Bowl, I'll attribute that Super Bowl to him and consider him the greatest defensive end of all time.

Just sayin.

FWIW - Auburn guy had meeting with Lawson's HS coach today. Coach said that Lawson is not going to Clemson. UT is AU's biggest competition.

Come on CBJ. These are the battles UT needs to win to get back. Odds are stacked, but recruiting is about relationships. Let's all hope CBJ & co can develop it enough with Carl.

Simple Peyton in regular season, Brady in postseason, Peyton will go down as the greatest regular season QB and Brady as the greatest postseason QB numbers back up what I say. Plus I dont like Brady, numbers dont lie they tell you like it is.:)

It would be amazing if Peyton manning showed up when Carl is Visiting this weekend, considering that Peyton is his favorite player.
