'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

Uzzi in VQ...

Watch for Carl to decommit after the game, then the race is on. I would not be shocked if he commits after the 11th but he might just drag it out past signing day.

I know the dad wants him at UT and they are very close, mix that with this mentor/coach is from UT and that he grew up a P. Manning fan, you have to like our chances.

He hates Bama and GA, FL is pushing hard too but he wants to start soon and they are loaded. I would hope we can beat out ole miss by just being UT."

Someone on VQ asked 2 Q's about Lawson...

1. If he picked today who would it be, Ole Miss or UT?
2. How did UT become a player for UT with the coaching change?

Uzzi's responses...

1. Today I would guess UT

2. UT has been recruiting him since he came to jr camp. The old staff was all over him too, but Carl likes the new staff better and jay did a good job getting to his parents. Carl just does not like to talk to the media.

Fortenberry's responses...

1. I don't know that he's just down to those two, but those two are the ones in front of the rest right now. Clemson is still in there and Florida is trying as well. I'm not sure what he'd do if he had to choose today. I Tennessee has some good momentum, but I think a lot of his peers are trying to talk him into going to Ole Miss. I think after his visit we'll know a lot more about where he stands with everything.

2. Jay Graham has been recruiting him for a very long time and there are some people around Lawson that have encouraged him to look at Tennessee and he let the new staff visit him and he has seemed to like Jones and Jancek. He'll meet Stripling tonight I suppose in Orlando.

Lawson meeting Stripling tonight cannot be overlooked. His track record with getting players to pros is going to pay huge dividends now and in the future. He is probably the best teacher and coach on the staff IMO.

Stripling is my favorite hire. Watching him coach UC in the bowl game got me fired up.

This "meeting" will last maybe 5 minutes with lots of onlookers. I am pretty sure they are talking about the ole bump meetings that happen at the hotels.

I think we have a hell of a staff. My only concern is OC/OL, I sure hope that offense is productive in the SEC.

It will be. Its not a spread or gimmick offense. Its a physical running attack and the QB getting the ball to the playmakers in open space. He will be at a school where he can fully run his offense, unlike what he had at cincy. People keep calling it a spread and its not. CBJ has said it wasnt and D. Green said he was shown how they would use him and its definitely not spread.

Not looking to start this debate here. I think we will have a good offense. We just can't go too lateral IMO since there is so much speed on defense in the SEC.
