'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

Well, considering he's been to Auburn over 20 times, I doubt you should look into that too much.

So, after a couple of years of not playing the game, he starts playing the game with 4 weeks to go? If he was taking officials to be polite (like to UT on the 11th), I could understand it. But he’s talking about brand new teams like UNC and Ole Miss. Nobody officials to Mississippi the one month of the year the girls aren’t tanned and in shorts unless they are serious about going there.

If he's taking visits the commit isn't very solid. Same goes for the guys on our side to. Solid commit generally means a kid is done looking around.

If the OV goes well on the 11th then we will be fine. He just wants to meet the coaching staff and get comfortable with them.

Elaborate on how it is dumb. This is the typical response on this forum, like you recruiting guys are enlightened or some ****. How would getting one of the top rated QB's in this class hurt us at all? Even if he doesn't play a down in college he could have been in Green and North's ears all week this week if he was a commit.

It is dumb because you want him because he has 4 stars next to his name. If he was even a 3 star you'd say you wouldn't want him. Also the Elite 11 is crap. The head dude is Trent Dilfer. The same Trent Dilfer who was an abysmal NFL QB. For his NFL career he threw 113 touchdowns and 129 interceptions. Fantastic numbers so he must know what he is talking about.

I tend to trust coaches opinions and scouting more in terms of recruiting. If he was such a great QB he would have offers from the Big 3, Miami, UF, and FSU. He doesn't. That's not good for a Florida recruit. He is taking visits to Kentucky and South Florida. I'm not sure why, I'm not a scout, but there's a reason why he doesn't have big offers.

And don't say the coaches have strike one and two. They've been here for less than a month.

He is the consensus #1 DT QB in the class, he is an ESPN 150 and also in the top 247 at 247Sports. Is that irrelevant?

All that you said is a bunch of crap. Larry Coker got fired for using evaluation from rivals. 24/7 doesn't rate heart, work ethic, or other important intangibles. If he won't release his film, he probably sucks.
How can I see if this guy is any good besides a women's panties contest? This guy is a sham, like bernie madoff.

I'm feeling less and less confident about our chances with this guy. Would be great to have him, he seems like a very humble, well spoken young man.

I think him, Bell, and Green are no go's. I think we Get North, but that's it as far as elite prospects. I'm usually optimistic, but I can see the writing on the wall.

Carl Lawson injured his shoulder during today's practice, it's unclear the extent of the injury. But he's been tweeting in the last hour, so might not be serious.

Rivals

Carl Lawson interview on ESPNU a couple of hours ago -

Interviewer: First things first, Carl you're part of a recruiting class that is in the top 10 of the country for most of the season, most of the offseason, leading up to thenex t year. Great defensive players on your side of the football, so what makes you confident in the Auburn defense, you're committed to the Tigers right now, what makes you confident about them going into next season?

Lawson: Um, just, I trust the coaching staffs that you know bring these players in all around the
country and uh, it's just a great opportunity just to be able to even go to college and I know these guys next to me will, um, you know, on the football field, will just always help me out and will just make me better so I'm just always confident about that.

Interviewer: I know there's been a lot of turmoil at times it seems like from the outside looking in to Auburn with Gene Chizik being fired at Auburn, and now you have Gus
Malzahn, who was a coordinator at Auburn before now coming back in, have you had any communication with those guys and how are your feelings going into
Auburn knowing that there has been some change?

Lawson: Yeah, I've talked to Coach Malzahn, he's just told me how everything is going and, uh, what
he's looking forward to doing, just telling me the scheme and just being very informal about you know, what's going on and it's just really helped me a lot.

I'm wondering if theres a reason for all these "um"s and "uh"s
