'13 FL RB Derrick Henry (Bama commit)

Remember this that no matter where he verbally commits to on Friday is recruitment will not be over. If it is UT UA will recruit him until he enrolls and the same for UT if he commits to UA. A verbal looks good for the class and may help land other players but the staff if they really want him will never stop and anything can happen in recruiting as anyone that has followed recruiting knows.:hi:

The people on this board amaze me sometimes. Everything has pointed to Bama for months, yet some still blindly believe he will be a vol.

Skeeter says the coach's feel really good about Henry. That's better info than a bunch of posters from here and other sites giving their opinion.

Skeeter has not said that since his Bama visit. SBV also said Vol before he visited Bama, but post visit said Bama.

I never said Skeeter said that. Bro I'm not going to argue with you. You and I dont have a clue what he is going to do and I am definitely not going to act like I do. There are maybe 3 or so posters that have a clue and the rest are like us. If he committs then great, but I will be Much more disappointed if we lose out on Green then Turman.

Trent Richardson was only the feature RB at UA for one year. A backup the other 2. Did not hurt him. These kids see that you only need 1 great year at UA and you can get to the NFL and a lot healthier than a Lattimore who will go with less shelf life in the NFL.

I give you that Richardson's shelf life may be longer than Lattimore, but he is a rookie with knee problems and surgeries in the books already. His shelf life isn't very long in the NFL either.

Have not seen that anywhere that he will be in FL. Doubt it with a SEC game on Saturday home but who knows.

Can't really vouch for it which is why I phrased it as a question. However, it was posted on a Gator board. Incidentally, the Gator boards I read say it has been down to UA and UT for a few days, although most assume it will be UA that gets the committment.

I haven't followed Taylor since we haven't been in for him. How does he stack up with Henry? Who is generally thought to be the better back? All I know is that they're both big time stat producers.

Well, the word I hear is that the UF coaches like both Adam Lane and Kelvin Taylor better than Henry as running backs. They apparently think that Henry runs too upright. They said the same thing about James Wilder Jr. who is doing pretty well for FSU. Still the coaches seem to know what they want. Whether they are correct or not is an interesting question. Particularly since Adam Lane is a lightly regarded 3 star by the recruiting services (injured last year).

Some UF fans are in revolt and think that if Henry can run for 500 yards in HS, he can probably run for at least 200 in college. They think UF should have recruited Henry as a RB even if it meant losing Lane or Taylor.

No one that I know denies that Henry is a beast of an athlete. Oh! Both Henry and Taylor have broken Emmett Smith's HS rushing record. Taylor has more yards but started amassing them in the eighth grade and thus had an extra year. Big differences of opinion on the Friday night Yulee/Glades match-up that will feature the two RBs.

There you go again thinking UA is the only option for a kid to reach the NFL and that this strategy is only utilized in Tuscaloosa.

David Wilson had 1 great year at VaTech; Ryan Williams had 1 great year at VaTech; Demarco Murray had 1 great year at OU; Toby Gerhardt; Ben Tate; Mario Hardesty; etc, etc.

You left out an "ont" there, and I'm pretty sure Gerhart was the guy at Stanford for more than one year. Of course, it could just be that he was such an absolute beast for one year, making it seem like more.

I never said UA was the only one but if you read the post I was responding to, it was in response to a UT fan said if he wanted to go to the next level his chances were better at a school where he could be the feature RB for 3 years vs 1 year at UA. Since it was directed at UA and no other school I gave an example where they were wrong in regards to UA. :hi:

Derrick Henry's recruitment is eerily similar to Bryce Browns..... The only problem is B.Brown was better. Personally, I hope we get D.Green.

Commit then Decommit, superstar mentality.. The fact that he loves to toy around with fans on twitter isn't great either.

I don't recall BB toying with people in the media or other things. He was kind of quiet with recruiting. Toward the end he got real quiet. When he visited UT the last time "Pictured in the red parka/coat" he was tyring to do it on the DL. Brown would have been a great RB here. His family just pulled him every which way and I think hurt his time in college.

How does retweeting the blather that different fanbases tweet him constitute "toying with fans"? Even further, how did Bryce Brown "toy with fans"? And Bryce stayed committed to Miami well after signing day. He didn't ever officially decommit from them to begin with.

Two recruitments couldn't possibly be more dissimilar.

Isn't Saban traveling to see Henry play on Friday? Interestingly, Saban is still actively recruiting Gators commit Kelvin Taylor who will also be at the game.

Finally found the answer and yes he will be at the game. Article yesterday talking about it and siad the only reason Saban is recruiting Taylor is because Muschamp is still recruiting Henry hard. Sounds like they getting each other riled up. BTW in the article Taylor says he does not mind the recruiting even though he is committed and likes Saban, but that UA has no chance with him.:hi:

I dont see him toying around at all. And Bryce's recruitment was the complete opposite of "toying around" and going around with a "superstar mentality".

Rivals
What should Yulee (Fla.) running back/athlete Derrick Henry do? The nation's No. 3 athlete and No. 74 prospect overall will decide between Alabama and Tennessee on Thursday and there are certainly two trains of thought, at least for me. Despite rushing for a state-record 502 yards this past weekend and pushing past Emmitt Smith as the No. 2 rusher in state history (Florida commitment Kelvin Taylor is No. 1), Henry is listed as an athlete for a reason.

We have some concerns about his ability at the next level as a tailback because of his 6-foot-3, 243-pound frame and upright style. However, there is clearly talent there and the clearest path to being a feature back is in Knoxville with T.J. Yeldon and Dee Hart already in Tuscaloosa and Altee Tenpenny and Tyren Jones already in this class. But if he chooses the Vols, can he be sure that Derek Dooley and his staff will still be there? Dooley is 0-11 in Tennessee against ranked teams and 0-18 in his career. With Georgia, Mississippi State, Alabama and South Carolina as the next four games on the schedule, this could be the stretch that ends his tenure.

It seems clear to most that Henry is leaning toward Alabama and, while he has a much better chance to make an impact with the Vols, it's hard to blame him based on the current coaching situation. I think it's safe to say Nick Saban will be around for awhile.

They've been doing that since the day he was hired.

Good point. I mean his job security but they've been doing that for awhile too. It's frustrating. If a change is made, I hope they do it soon and quickly. They better have someone lined up and willing to take the job. The method Mike Hamilton has used to find a coach has proven ineffective. I still have faith in Dooley though. I think we can go 2-2 in October and salvage a decent season.
