'13 FL RB Derrick Henry (Bama commit)

Alabama by tonight.

Man, I wish we could get him up here before he decides to flip. We impressed him last time.

100% guarantee that won't happen. He won't re-commit for awhile.

We're not out of it... here is an open letter from D. Henry regarding his recruitment.

"This has been a great experience getting to know so many great coaches and visiting some of the best college football programs in the country. Even though I’ve worked really hard to put myself in this situation, I know I’m blessed to have this opportunity I’m very thankful for that.

"For me personally, this is one of the biggest decisions I’ll make in my life and probably the most important to this point. I want to be 100 percent sure I am making the best choice on where I go to college and to play football.

"I’m going to open up my recruitment and take some more visits, get as much information as I can, and then decide from there. I was probably a little too quick in making my initial decision and got caught up in the moment so I apologize for that.

"I’m still considering Georgia and I have nothing but great things to say about their program, but I want to be honest with everyone in the fact that I am going to go over all my options and do what is best for me and my athletic and academic career.

"For the rest of the summer, I am focusing on helping my team have the best season that we can have and achieve our team goals. Please refer any questions about my recruitment to my head coach.

"I’m not sure when I’ll make a final announcement, but when I do I will let everyone know."

If our insider is right and he said it last week before the visit, it is the latter. FWIW

I'd imagine that's what will happen, but it can't hurt if we can get him up to Knoxville.

After he left here we were the #2 school, then Alabama got involved.

Yeah, I saw that after I posted. It might not officially be "Alabama by tonight" but it probably secretly is.

Just noticed someone already posted that statement from 247.. my bad. But yeah, don't count us out. Henry sees our depth chart. Sure, Bama will be hard to beat for him but Sam Pittman and Jay Graham are on him. Let's let it play out....

I wish. Unfortunately, Saban has pulled a rabbit out of his hat and convinced him to play HB/TE, but most likely TE only IMO.

KingHenry WILL NOT do this.
I want him here, but wherever he goes(here) I want to see him carry that rock! (here)

I agree and maybe Henry will open it up and look around. The word for about 2 weeks on the UA side was he would decommit after the trip and commit at the Opening in July. If he does decide to wait until later or take visits in the fall Henry will probably not end up at UA. There will probably be no space for him at that point.

And there's time between now and The Opening. I wonder if he'll be taking visits in that time frame? I think that's when a team, maybe Tennessee, maybe not, would have to make its move.

I agree if would have to be then but some UGA fans still believe he will be back for Dawgnight as well.

And in regards to my statement if he waits there will not be a spot for him. It does not mean UA does not want him because we do. But remember UA already has Tenpenny and Jones who both were interviewed today saying they were solid and Jones even said Henry was not a problem. So if he goes eleswhere it will not hurt our class at this point.

I will also that I just read a poster say the reason for no commit yet is because the staff wanted to talk to the other RBs 1st and since they were just interviewed maybe we will here soon. But I will believe our insiders who has been talking baout Henry to UA for a month now.

Well, Saban already has talked him into it. Ask TW...they spent a whole day with him at camp running HB and TE...even ran some routes at WR. Saban will get him and make him a TE. The HB spill is a lie IMO. He won't play one down at RB for Bama...mark it down.

I think it sounds like Alabama. But we will see. Before the Alabama offer, I would have said I liked Tennessee's chances if he decommitted from UGA. But he likes Alabama alot.

I'm not ready to give up yet, but I knew Alabama was going to be tough to beat. All they had to do was turn on the film. Their offensive scheme is a RBs dream.

He won't be playing RB for Bama, if he goes there.

If Henry does flip to Alabama, the sooner the better. If he commits now, he will have some time to simmer with the idea of not playing RB in college. I highly doubt that after the glow wears off from Saban's magic, he will be satisfied with being a TE in an offense that is primarily run oriented which means he will have few touches in each game. Once the newness settles in, and assuming we put some good wins on the board, he will be low hanging fruit for a rapidly improving Vol program with few or possibly no elite backs and plenty of opportunity for him to play immediately and crack the starting position relatively early.

Right now, I think if we win 9 games including a decent bowl, we will get Kamara, and either Green or Dye -- a very strong RB class that we sorely need.

i dont think he knows that tho

I think that he does. Saban is a great salesman, and remember that he has been in the NFL coaching as well. Saban has sold this kid on the fact that his future in the NFL is at a different position than RB...most likely TE. DH has bought into it hook, line, and sinker. This is just my opinion from what TW has been offering about his visit to Bama. This is what I gather from his info. I don't think that he will play one down of RB (unless MANY get hurt or dismissed), if he signs with Bama.

I'd say he is exactly right.

From one of our best insiders he told us on several sites that Henry would flip to UA before he visited. Prior to the visit he said Henry was still flipping but would not announce for UA until later. That Henry wanted to open up his recruitment and not make it look like a flip but that he would decommit first and then commit later. End of the month or at the Opening as I hinted at earlier in the thread. So just giving you a heads up from the guy that called Yeldon weeks before it happened and A Taylor along with LC, Kirven, and Tomlison, he is still calling Henry to UA. FWIW.

this is true, he committed to bama before he even visited.

I think he could definitely play RB in college. He is a hell of an athlete.

^This! We don't have anyone at RB on our roster with his size AND athleticism. He would get a very good and long look at RB if he came to UT.
