'13 FL RB Derrick Henry (Bama commit)

Whatever happened to this guy? I thought everybody was talking like he would publicly announce for Bama like 1.2 seconds after stepping off their campus.

Seemed like a lot of people were acting like he'd announce directly after, or at least a day or two after. This is day three, I think, so we'll see if anything comes out soon.

One of our insiders prior to camp said he would flip but that he would not make the announcement right after camp as some believed. That the decison would come later by the end of the month or at the opening. FWIW

Now some UGA insiders are saying he may not have flipped, so we will see , but our side is saying he has. Either way it will be cleared up in the next month and he is still suppose to make a statement.

This covers a few things. Some people believe that 3 top RBs would not go to UA at the same time. Or UGA fans are convinced it means T Jones would flip. Also that Henry will only play RB in college. The only part I disagree with is the bolded part. UA may be a little crowded as well but we are looking at Henry as a HB and he run those drills the other day.

There are rumors that if Henry flips from UGA to Alabama, it would create a domino effect of top running backs switching schools – like you often see among QB prospects, including Jones going from Alabama to UGA.

“Yes, I’ve been hearing all that stuff, and it’s just rumors,” Jones told the AJC on Tuesday night. “People are trying to get me to go over to Georgia. I’m not worried about all the rumors. I’m 100-percent committed to Alabama.”

When Jones was at Alabama, he also heard other recruits talking about Henry. “I don’t know his exact situation, but some kids were saying that [Henry] doesn’t care if he plays linebacker or fullback. He just wants some playing time, rather than sitting over there waiting at Georgia.”

What if Henry decides to go to Alabama to play running back? Would that make Jones have second thoughts? “I mean, I would wonder about it,” he said. “But I’m not really fazed. I’m not concerned what he does because there’s competition everywhere. If he comes to Alabama, then we’ll work hard and compete together. There’s competition at every school.”

Yea that makes a lot of sense, go to Alabama where they're stacked at RB & LB or even UGA where they're stacked at RB. Yet here is Tennessee needed a big time RB in this class.

Man we need to win some football games this year.

Not that i agree with whats being said, but two things are being used with Henry and Green.

1. Dooley may not be there next year.

2. Come to UGA, BAMA, OSU etc.. because as a RB you don't want to wear yourself out in college. RB's take too many hits and have much shorter playing spans that other positions in football. Come play with our deep depth chart and share carries and save your legs for the NFL so you can play more than 4 years in the NFL. Having 2 RB's sharing carries is the standard now, and we need at least 4 good guys on the roster in case of injuries and grade casualties. The kids and parents are buying it.

I kinda had a feeling how this was gonna end when Saban called him from the draft.

I imagine when Uncle Nick called, he probably said something like this:

"Son, I'm calling you from the draft here in the Big Apple where 5 of my players are expected to go in the first round tonight. You could be one of these guys in three or four years. You come to Alabama and they'll be some competition at running back. (Cough, cough) We already have 4 or 5 four/five stars either on campus or committed (Cough, cough), but you'll get good competition and get to play immediately at the position of your choice. At the end of the day, you'll be here on this stage with me, in these bright lights, as you're drafted in the top 5, just like Trent."

And it was over for little ole' UT - poor, misfortunate little university that has never gotten any players in the NFL, especially no running backs.

This has been a great experience getting to know so many great coaches and visiting some of the best college football programs in the country. Even though I’ve worked really hard to put myself in this situation, I know I’m blessed to have this opportunity I’m very thankful for that.

For me personally, this is one of the biggest decisions I’ll make in my life and probably the most important to this point. I want to be 100 percent sure I am making the best choice on where I go to college and to play football. I’m going to open up my recruitment and take some more visits, get as much information as I can, and then decide from there. I was probably a little too quick in making my initial decision and got caught up in the moment so I apologize for that. I’m still considering Georgia and I have nothing but great things to say about their program, but I want to be honest with everyone in the fact that I am going to go over all my options and do what is best for me and my athletic and academic career.

For the rest of the summer, I am focusing on helping my team have the best season that we can have and achieve our team goals. Please refer any questions about my recruitment to my head coach. I’m not sure when I’ll make a final announcement, but when I have no doubts at all about where I’m going, I’ll let everyone know.

Maybe the coaches can get him back on campus?
