'13 FL RB Derrick Henry (Bama commit)

“It really didn’t jump off until about three weeks ago,” Henry said. “I started talking to my coach. We had a serious talk. We talked about the positives of Alabama. We feel like Alabama is the place to go.

“I am not saying my coaches are swaying me to go to Alabama. They are not doing that at all. We are just laying out everything. The fact Alabama has coach Saban and all the things they bring to the table really sticks out to me.”

What about his verbal pledge to the Bulldogs?

“It’s not that solid as it was,” Henry said. “I am really open. I am looking at schools in my top group. I want to make sure I make the right decision. I am going up to Alabama, and when I leave I hope to know where I am going to go. The visit to Alabama is all I have planned along with The Opening in Oregon.”

gets better by the day

I just don't understand why he would go from one loaded backfield to another. I understand Alabama over Georgia, but seems like he would want to play.

Maybe my glasses are too orange-tinted.

Not many are dedicated enough to help rebuild a program. They look at the bling and Bama has it right now

I'm right there with you...I mean, Alabama's what, like four or five deep with four star backs right now?

I am starting to wonder if Saban hasn't talked Henry into the fact that he will be too big at RB, but could be a stud at TE or LB. I know what everyone is saying that Saban will give him a chance at RB, but something isn't adding up here. My prediction is if he flips to Bama, then he will not be playing RB.

If this guy is good as most think he is, he can go to Bama and get his touches and get to the NFL without being dinged up as much as handling the whole load for 3+ years. The reason we should want him is he really very good.

I want him as a vol, but maybe he feels confident is his ability. Plus there are not many players who eyes wouldn't light up when saban took them by the trophy case.

Also, going into camp running back is a position that is nice to have options at because you never know what can happen.

Very true. If we show some flashes of success this season, we will definitely land a stud RB. May not be Henry, but the past couple years have made it obvious that top RBs want to go play at top programs with other good RBs. If Lane does well and UT does well, one or two good RBs will want to come join the fun.

Don't misunderstand me...I want him in ORANGE & WHITE playing RB. I'm just wondering if Saban convinced him that he will be a better fit at a different position in college, but more importantly in the NFL. I say this because I don't see Bama pulling Henry, Jones, and Tenpenny at RB this year, and then Scarborough and the other stud RB in 2014, on top of who they already have. Make sense where I am coming from?

yea i see what you mean but if he does commit to bama i think jones or tenpenny decommit not long after

Yeldon and jones look to be the real deal.

I don't understand it. It's like FSU and D Linemen. Why do they just keep on flocking there? Frustrating.

Oh well I hope we beat out UGA for AK

I agree completely! Or so I would think one of them would de-commit...then again, it's Bama and you never know with them. I know one thing...they can only sign 25, so they can't have them all. :)

yeah, I see one of them looking elsewhere and while I like big backs, it's hard not to compare Henry with Wilder. He looks like version Wilder 2.0

How's the air up there?

Why both said when they commited that Saban told them UA would bring in 3 RBs in this class. They both in post commitment interviews said they have no problem with that. So why would it be an issue now.

IF Henry flips, I hope that Dooley goes after Jones. I really like what he brings to the table.

Saban would never risk taking Henry if it meant losing Jones.

If anybody did leave it would be Tenpenny. The main reason AT never really liked interest was because they were pass first offense. But if they get a new HC that runs the ball or the current shows he will, Ark will be a threat for him.

just a guess

i think yeldon and 1 other dude could and probably will carry the load just fine only so many carries to go around unless you wanna wait till your sr yr and hope your the man then

Lacy gone and who knows after these 2 recent surgeries if Fowler will return. Actually the same could be said if Lacy's toe never gets right. But after the fall we have Yeldon and Hart. Which means Yeldon, Hart, Jones, and TP. As most know Henry will not be a RB at best HB slash TE in our offense. Also Hart seems to have alot of issues off the field and could easily see him transferring out if these others come in and move past him.

The real concern for UA is 2014. If all these guys come in and stick it out it will become really interesting. The 3 RBs we seem to be in it for could start looking elsewhere. The only plus is Scarbrough already stated he thinks WR will be his best position at UA and Fournette(LA) knows UA is also looking at him for LB. R Thomas might be the only one we actually recruit for RB.

If LSU can have RB by committee so can can UA. And as others have mentioned sharing the load never hurt MI or TR and puts less tear on their body before going to the NFL.

Maybe because our running game sucked last year?

IMO if UT can get the running game going this fall, then we will get some stud RB commits.
