'13 FL LB Ryne Rankin

Ryne is just one heck of a player. He led florida in tackles in their highest classification. Well before his senior season he has what 18 FBS offers. I don't know how many lbs the vols are looking to add, but UGA need 3 to 4 ilb and so we will take a very good prospect in ryne rankin to add to johnny o'neal along with Reginald Carter. Not saying rankings mean a lot, but right now Ryne is a 4 star on 247sports (as someone above stated) and per keith n from rivals Ryne is going to move up to a 4 star as well. I don't know your staff very well, but I trust CTG and KO when it comes to LB evaluations.
he's a solid player but his stats are misleading because his team plays in one of the weaker 8A districts in Fla. Timber Creek has solid D1 talent but the other 5 teams are not very good. Has some solid offer but he's going to need to camp to get Big 3 offer and maybe even UT.

Totally agree. Maybe I'm missing something but I do not see 4-star talent here. And you're right the level of competition doesnt look very good at all. Looks like a mid to high 3 to me.

AP First Team All State LB(8A). First Team All Area LB by Orlando Sentinel. Talented prospect who finished his junior season with 189 tackles, seven sacks, eight caused fumbles, and one defensive touchdown.

That is a great season. As far as Tennessee's staff, they hired Sunseri which was a great hire. The guy knows his defense and is a great coach. He will get the Tennessee defense on the right track in the 3-4.

yeah ryne is a heck of player.. you saw we had 3 commits today.. great to see aulden pull the trigger along with priester. this is a writeup from a guy who covers florida and it's echo'd by chris nee as well.

Hey guys,
I first saw Ryne as a sophomore. He came to an event I held last spring and I watched him play live in the fall.

He's the real deal.

When he didn't have any offers while others were getting them, I knew it was only a matter of time.

6-1/215 and he's a flat out football player. Old school. He's tough, rugged, knows the game very well. He plays with a great motor. He loves to hit. He loves contact. He has a great football IQ, good instincts. Those things help him get around the ball a lot. His physical skills allow him to make the plays.

He has around 20 offers now and I think he's one of the state's top LB prospects. I dont think he has the upside of Matthew Thomas or Daniel McMillan but he's one of the state's premier LB prospects and I think this is a great pickup for UGA.

Rankin is solid but I think he's ranked too high. It's a few guys in Fl that aren't ranked that are better imo. Good pickup but if he was the "real deal" he would have earned offer from at least one of the Big 3...he's camped at each over the last 2 years.

Kyrin Priester on the other hand is a sleeper and his offer list is going to expand soon. Missed 4 games last year and still had 600 yards Rec.

I like Rankin a lot. I think Sunseri is going to get the ball rolling in Tennessee and Florida is on its way back up. Georgia will struggle in 13 with losing a lot of players so we need a really good class this year. The east in 2 years will be the dominant side of the SEC again.

It all depends on how many guys you are taking at some spots as well regarding the big 3 and who you have on your board. Last year this time ramik wilson didn't have an offer from the big 3 and then we saw what happened after his senior year and how his offer sheet blew up. i do trust CTG and KO on their lb evaluations and I know chris nee and mike bakas both love ryne rankin who they have seen him at camps and he really impressed them. Also we are taking 4 ilbs so we can take a guy who is solid (not saying you are wrong btw because to me solid is good with our needs at lb) to go along with johnny o'neal and reginald carter and who else we turn the heat up on. We took zero ilbs last year.

Yeah I like Priester a lot and after seeing his video he reminds me a lot of brice hunter's game. They are very similar. Thanks for your KP info. We also got a commitment from Aulden Bynum who can play OG/OT for us.

If we wanted this guy, we would have offered. He may turn out to be good, but he was not high on Sunseri's list.

I'm not sure what you're looking for. Decent size, physical play, great instincts, good, not great athlete. There's a reason schools like UGA and PSU and even Texas A/M offered this kid before the summer camp circuit even started. I think we continually outsmart ourselves, always looking for a pristine physical specimen over a pure football player.

This kind of logic fails to explain another former UGA player, Geno Atkins, currently one of the best DT's in the NFL, who never got offered by the Big 3.

Look at the coaching staffs in place in Florida---
1. UF--Will Muschamp--terrible HC resume,
2. FSU--Jimbo Fisher--he can recruit, but can he win? ANd quite frankly, are his recruiting evals as good as the paysites say they are? If they were, they'd be holding up a NC by now, especially in the ACC.
3. Miami---Al Golden might be the best coach at the big 3 schools, and that's not necessarily a great thing.

If there were more competent coaches, I'd agree that a lack of a UF offer might be indicative of him not being that great.

I've stayed out of this nonsense but saying UGA evaluates talent better than all three of those schools is crazy. Florida has much better LB commits. And Golden and Jimbo know talent. Getting it to play together(FSU) is another thing. This is ridiculous. Congrats UGA on your pick up. On to better prospects. And saying what qualifies Sunseri to judge talent at LB. I think his LBs at Bama were better than Grantham's at UGA. Even in their second years if you want to compare them at that point.

Who? Powell? He is 187 pounds and they are wanting to go to a 3-4 with that. He is way undersized as a LB. People should really stop being star watchers. Rankin is very solid.
As far as current LBs and LBs this last year. There was not one LB last year better than Jarvis Jones. Jarvis had as many sacks as Hightower, Upshaw, Mosley and Nico Johnson all combined. Jarvis was only a first team All American. I dont know why Sunseri didnt offer Rankin. Suseri is a great coach, an excellant hire and will get the players he needs to build a solid defense. Georgia's problem right now is depth at LB and secondary. They are going to probably take 4 ILBs in this class and 6-7 Dbs. Rankin is solid because he already has size, he has a high football IQ and is relentless in tackling. So he fits the mold of what we need. Now can we stop with all the bickering. I am happy with all 3 of our commits yesterday and am ready for a few more over the next 2 weeks.

lol Rankins vs Powell isn't even fair. He's up to 205 and his weight goes up and down because of running track. Dawgs have an ex S at ILB so putting on weight is about frame and S&C program. Both pluses for UF and Powell. Compare film, level of comp and camp/combine results...like I said Rankin has camped at FSU,UM and UF since 10 grade and NEVER got an offer.

Great Job...those three are bigtime prospects...
