'13 DT AL Rod Crayton

Do you have a clue what is holding schools back? Has anyone said we are not offering you because X?

ESPN shows 14 offers, 7 from the SEC, including us. He already had his visit with LSU. I'm on board his bandwagon.

RC does have a solid offer list. I am not sure how many of those offers are committable as of now though. The 1/2 dozen SEC offers makes me think alot of coaches think the foot is not a reason to pass. If there is not documented cases where it has held him back or caused him problems, I don't get it. This kid could be our Jesse Williams going forward. Powerhouse DT & Goal line FB? Yes please.

Yeah, and talk about motivation against the teams that didnt offer.

I don't think this kid needs any more motivation. His "handicap" seems to have motivated him to more than compensate. I want a kid that motivated. He's a prime candidate for VFL.

The problem is Rod is a guy you want to root for and see succeed but coaches must be looking at the foot issue and have questions. He may be all world in his area but can he really keep up with the SEC speed and OL in his situation. Personally I dont know enough about him to say but you have to think its either the foot or grades that have schools shying away from someone so productive and clearly strong as an ox.

Imo, this is the guy you take a "chance" on....not the Bonners or Phillips' of the world.

I dont think this staff really has the luxury of taking chances. They should not have done the east Tn combo deal IMO.

Grades and foot have to be the only possible reasons, although maybe height is another. I just can't imagine a team in desperate need of true DTs wouldn't give this guy a good look. I don't know much about recruiting DL, but the guy just destroys everyone in his way. It's not like AL football is horrible either. Definitely beyond me why we aren't begging him to come play here. The foot excuse seems like a lazy excuse to me, I seriously doubt that anyone would know he had a foot problem by watching him play. The UT Medical Center would probably relish the idea of making a prosthetic that's even better than a human foot.

Crayton's recruiting is mind boggling. UT needs DTs and does not have many options at DT. Crayton needs/wants to play big time college football and he will do it with a chip on his shoulder. UT should take a "chance" on Crayton though I think he is going to show that his statistics, work ethic, etc., are not a fluke.

I think the reward potential outweighs the risk associated

It absolutely does. All prospects carry risks, some obviously more than others. In the long run, those who've proven themselves to be high-character guys with a solid commitment to hard work are generally going to be lesser risks.

With Crayton, you know what you're getting: a disciplined and determined guy with super strength and production, tremendous character, and outstanding work ethic. IMO, he's less of a risk than some of our current commitments and targets.

Again, the issue seems to be he's missing half his foot. Unless something else definitive comes out, that's what I'm going with.

He's been missing the part of his foot since he was a kid so why is someone who was receiving a fair amount of attention early in the season not really getting any news after what seemed to be a spectacular season?

That's what I'm saying....I thought he was dominating everyone this year. Even in the all-star game.

Personally I would rather take a risk on a kid like this than someone with character issues. This kid could have all the heart and work ethic in the world that pushes him to overcome being on the short side for his postion.

I would rather be on the good side of finding that out if it were to become so.

5'11 DT with no special athletic ability. Makes absolutely perfect sense.

He plays a position in which physical attributes determine if you can play at this level.

He is a solid 6 and one of his obvious special attribute is his amazing strength. He would come into the program as the strongest current vol and would leave with probably all the weight lifting records.

He has a chip on his shoulder because people have always told him he can't, I want him. We need a guy like this

I think he would be a great Vol. Maybe he is a bit short and or not ideal size for the DT spot. What he would be is a great guy to have during practice. You can't find very many guys throwing around 6 bills in the weight room. That kind of power would be a benefit for our OL to line up against. I honestly think the kid would be in the 2 deep by his SO year.
