'13 DT AL Rod Crayton

You posted that in the linebacker needs thread. I used the wrong spelling of pray. Its a pain to edit posts on my phone, don't worry about it.

Gotchya. I thought I had misspelled it so when I checked I got confused. My phone screen is cracked to Hell and I often don't see that I've misspelled something until later ha

But yes, I really hope we can make an impression on Johnson. Hopefully he values playing in the SEC and his relationship with Thigpen is strong enough. He would be a great addition and necessary addition

Everyone loves the underdog. I would be willing to bet this kid has heard "you cant do that" more than once in his lifetime. Once an underdog now hes the top dog.

Rod,

There is no way you can make it at TN! :)

Don't know how long the staff needs to evaluate. We need a freshman DT to groom whether Bradley comes here or not. We can't afford to whiff on this position.

Would be a huge mistake IMO to pass but heh I am biased. I have watched this kid out perform, out hustle and manhandle some of the top OL prospects at camps and last week at AL/MS All Star, he shut down the middle. OL there said he was toughest DL they have ever seen. He is #6 with most tackles ever in state of AL ( that is 1A-6A) and only player ever to receive All State 1st Team recognition for 3/4 years playing ball. In addition to brut strength he is one hell of a kid. While Dee Liner complained about having to do community service during All Star Week, Rod looked forward to the opportunity. When other players hovered around scouts and reporters, Rod was hard at work. He was not there for press or glory, he was there to do his job. Thigpen and Jancek (sp?) seemed impressed with him and I would be surprised if they pass.

P.S. and for the icing on the cake, he is already academically qualified.

Great to hear. I can't imagine Thigpen and Jancek would pass either. Hope Rod chooses the good guys :)

No pass. VN would love to have Rod. His play seems to back up the work ethic you speak of. He will be successful wherever he ends up.

Have the UT coaches contacted Rod about setting up a visit?

Sounds like a great person and player! Also, stop teasing us, just tell us he's committing to the Vols!

Its been noted in this thread (hopefully accurately) that the former staff offered. Was Rod not interested in the former staff/UT or was it not a committable offer?

Al Rod has been one of my favs for a while... can't wait to see where he ends up.

Burn the Boat, is that academic reference hinting that he could be an EE; or, just stating that there are no worries heading into his las semester?

Thanks,

Who is Al Rod?

I just think his name is AL Rod every time is see his profile. Obviously, the AL is for Alabama, but it just catches my eye since his first name only has three letters.... So, we have 'AL Rod'

Edit: most profiles list state then position, but his title lists position then state, fwiw...

Yes, Rod had commitable offer from Dooley/Sunseri. Rod decided to wait and make decision after season and all star games. He did not want to have to de-commit anywhere and he knew the coaching changes would play a big role in his decision. UT coaches came to AL/MS game and discussed official visit. Appears new coaching staff is evaluating all current offers. Coaches were impressed with Rod so I can only assume they are talking it thru with Jones and Stripling. With regards to grades. Not sure what EE means but Rod has passed grad exams (requirement to graduate in AL ) and has high enough ACT and GPA to qualify as an NCAA athlete. I think UT is part of his top 3.

Early enrollee. Looking to start college in the spring.

EE means early enrollee, meaning starts college in January instead of June.

Thanks for the info, we all hope to have Rod in orange.

Reading hubbs and boats post here I don't think we are going to offer unless its after we miss on some other kids if at all. We have dissed out a number of offers since the coaching change but are still evaluating here. That tells me we are either buying time waiting on other recruits or not interested at all.
