CBJ and staff know and hence the commitment last night. For the life of me I can't understand why a big time running back doesn't see the opportunity here. Unbelievable.
:crazy::loco:
If a influential parent or "family" is in favor of one school, that is the school that most recruits will pick, even if they are torn between two or more schools or like a school other than the one favored by the family. That's the way it works, usually. It's rare for a kid to pick a school that is not No. 1 with momma or dad or the group. All of which is to say we're probably screwed.
At Tennessee, where he's built relationships with running backs coach Jay Graham and former Auburn assistant Tommy Thigpen, Ford says there was a lot to like.
"The relationship is unbelievable that I have with (new head coach Butch) Jones," Ford said. "Tennessee, they have great facilities, and I know how they would use me in that spread offense."
Ford clearly valued his relationships with the coaching staffs at both schools, saying he can talk to Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee about anything and that he likes how running backs coach Tim Horton plans to use him.
"Auburn, I've always dreamed about playing in Coach Malzahn's offense, and this is a big opportunity I'd have to do that," Ford said. "The coaching staff, those guys are people that can help me out, coach me up and help me get to the next level."
He gone!
That's what I picked up on too.Here's my take on it. I was driving during the interview and just now stopped. I heard comments that could be positives or negatives for both schools. He seemed to say better things about CBJ as a person, but better things about Mahlzons offense. We know his dads stance, so the family role looks positive for auburn. But them they asked him about telling vandy about decommitting. This is the short version of how I remember his response
"it was reall hard to tell vandy that. " (then a minute or so getting off track talking about SEC football and growing up) "and it's just a hard thing to do to tell a school know that you grew up watching"
During that last little part he paused like he thought he was saying too much. I can't remember where the pause was, but I know it was towards the last few words. He then went on to openly praise(without being asked) the auburn program and fans without mentioning tennessee at all. It almost seemed apologetic since he knew that the Birmingham station was mostly listened to by auburn vans vs. vol fans.
I could very well have been hearing thins because I wanted to hear them, and he may have been trying to calm the auburn fans down that we're beginning to lose faith after his big tweet.
I'm still positive, but tomorrow we will see. Go Vols!
