With the same players from the previous year, our rushing average improved dramatically despite being a pass-first team:

2011: 90 YPG (Ranked 116 of 120 teams)
2012: 160 YPG (Ranked 62 of 124 teams)

Incidentally, CJG came home 2012. How well you recruit don't mean ish if you can't coach them up. so STFU.

A lot more factors in to those numbers. The development of the OL,Taurean Poole,etc. RB id one of the most natural positions on the field, so recruiting plays a big part.

That tends to happen when your coach is on the hot seat one yr and then a new coaching staff the next yr.

That was not all Graham. Pittman made a big difference also. I do think Graham did a good job with the backs but the OL went to Dave Hart and tried to save Pittman's job because they felt he was effective.

I said the same thing about Pittman a couple of weeks ago. He did a great job with the O-Line. I think the only reason they were not better in run blocking (which was still an improvement over the year before) was due to play calling. They were not afforded the same game time experience in run blocking that they were in pass blocking.

Not going to bash CBJ for letting him go. A head coach has to put people around him that he is comfortable with. I just don't think, we as fans should talk bad about Pittman. He was one of the good ones. Sal on the other hand.........well, you know where i'm going with that.

Ford is a great back and would be a huge asset! Regardless of who commits we need a set of strong backs to keep defenses honest and provide some punch. A strong defense wins championships, which we are actively recruiting and rapidly building, but in the SEC the cornerstone of a productive offense is the running game. We really could use Mr. Ford.
I think we all in Volnation would like to see him in Orange!

Yea no doubt OL gonna be beasting next year! Any RB coming in would definitely be in a good spot. And this kid actually looks like he fits the power spread we'll running this year.

Pittman made a difference, but it was mostly Graham. In 2011, the backs always tried to bounce outside. The line was ok, but the backs didnt run between the tackles.

The thing that Graham taught litteraly was to trust the blocks and run between the tackels. I remember him taking Neal aside in the NCSU game after he tried to bounce it outside and talked to him again about running inside. In other words, if Graham was here in 2011, I believe we still would have been in the 150 YPG range instead of 90.

My two cents :twocents:

I think CP had as much to do with the YPG as anybody, but there was definite improvement in the OL and the RBs.

That being said, I really don't see why RBs aren't flocking to us given our RB depth and OL strength.

It's starting to look like Johnathan Ford may indeed visit Auburn this weekend. We are trying to get final confirmation, but it looks like that is what he might end up doing.

I think, like we've said all along, if he takes this Auburn visit it's going to get very interesting. He has some close to him that would like to see him stay in state and go to Auburn. The Vols felt like they've had good momentum since the visit and that continued this week, but this can't be seen as positive. We'll see what the vibes are coming out of the weekend.

I think the good thing for us is that it doesn't seem like he's going to sign with Vandy. IMO, he's going to Auburn to make his family happy that he at least checked them out. They don't even have a RB coach right now. Hopefully he likes UT and Jay Graham better and commits to UT next week.

Nearly exactly what I was saying early in the week only to get hammered pretty bad by posters claiming visiting auburn would be the end of the world.

Not signing with vandy = good.
Visiting barn = bad. $$$

imo he's a Vol tho.
